Modded Car Insurance?
So I'm starting to install all sorts of pretty things on my car and am getting worried about getting screwed by my insurance company if anything goes wrong. Does anyone here have experience with getting aftermarket add-ons insured? How much extra does it cost?

Your insurance company usually will automatically cover a small amount (like, $1,000). Ask your agent.
Above that you need custom parts and equipment coverage. Some good resources: http://www.carinsurance.com/aftermarket-parts.aspx http://www.carinsurance.com/coverage...equipment.aspx |

I just told my agent what I wanted covered, and how much it cost me. That way it was covered for an additional amount.

Keep your receipts, as long as you have proof of purchase and/or pictures maybe.. If you didn't already tell them you added that part on. I think the cost of the product does depreciate over time as well with the insurance companies.

I just assume they won't be covered and I've lost that money forever. Cars isn't a cheap hobby.

What everyone said. Keep receipts and talk to you agent, they'll add additional coverage as needed, but be warned, additional coverage may/will increase your rate.

Thanks for the info! Yeah I figure my rate will go up; I'm ok with that for the peace of mind if anything bad happens. I'm just hoping it doesn't skyrocket because I'm deemed more risky now or something.
