Borla UEL Header and Stock Exhaust CEL
Hey guys,
There's plenty of you guys out there with the Borla UEL headers and aftermarket exhaust systems, how'd you guys get around the CEL without a tune? I ordered the Borla UEL headers and planning to run it with stock everything else for now, without a tune until my wallet agrees to pay for a tune. |

well you should've searched, but considering you already created this thread.
You should add a defouler / O2 sensor spacer that ends up tricking the sensor.

Just let the CEL be on until you get a tune. Only downside is no cruise control.
Its not worth removing the underpanel and doing defoulers if you are getting a tune. |

Budget a tune with the headers if possible.

I see no reason for a CEL as long as the secondary cat is left intact. The CEL is only triggered when the post-secondary cat O2 sensor reads too much oxygen because there are no upstream cats. If for some odd reason you do get a CEL for reduced catalyst efficiency a simple anti-fouler/CEL eliminator on the secondary O2 sensor should eliminate the CEL.
Do consider that the cheap anti-foulers are zinc plated mild steel that will rust very quickly and be impossible to remove later on should you need to replace the sensor, etc. IMO it's worth a few dollars to get one in 304ss. Also the angled versions seem to work better than straight ones. |

So where is the secondary (narrow band) O2 sensor installed? Is it after the primary cat but before the secondary cat? If so, a CEL eliminator should still work. Just remember that whatever you do, NEVER PLACE A ANTI-FOULER ON THE PRIMARY (WIDE BAND) O2 SENSOR!!! |
