1989 XT6

Figured I would share some pics after the first detail that I've given it for like 3 years. After the horror of discovering this a few weeks ago, i figured it needed some love.

I think i am going to throw in the stock radio for now... until i can build something to block the hole in the dash and fit a single din radio and a storage box.
Being an 80's car there is barely any storage and no cup holders... funny that the only improvement the BRZ/FRS brings is cup holders.

This is a 1989 Subaru XT6 5 speed manual. I bought it years ago from a guy up in Washington who had 3 or 4 of these at one time so he had a mountain of parts. I flew up there, we packed up the car with its original motor, trans and all the other engine compartment goodies. I then proceeded to drive it straight home to Dallas with a few spare bits of hose, a simple took kit, some stop leak for the rad and tires, bottles of all the fluids, and some zipties/hoseclamps/duct-tape for good luck. Made it all the way to Denver where i had to stop at a friends house and patch up the power steering, but besides that after about 30 hours of driving i came home to a welcome party of my friends. Seeing as i had so much fun on this road trip i almost ordered my BRZ to come into Seattle so i could do the same trip again approximately 10 years later. But alas i received shipment here in Dallas.

Anyways... here are some pics.
The paint is starting to get really bad, especially all the ones off the white donor car, the car was originally white pearl, so it is now a bit of a patchwork of white.

I didnt take a close up... forgot... but the door handles are designed to be flush with the car for better aero.
(just noticed the photobomb from my GF in the background while looking over this post .. lol)

That oil stain on the left/center side of the trunk is from the spare engine leaking some excess oil during the trip home.

The ODO reads 200500mi, since this is the 2nd or 3rd motor, and second transmision, i would not be surprised if the chassis has 300-400k miles.

The battery is missing cause it was being replaced at the time.

Some aero flair on the mirrors.

The "hidden" wiper blade. when it is off it tucks its self under the hood edge for better aero.

Sorry for the bad cell phone pics... looked better on the phone... but it was all i had at the time.

Thanks for looking, now i just need to take some pictures with my SWP BRZ next to my SWP XT6.

Im gonna dig through my old photos to see if i have any of the road trip i had, and of the engine shoehorned into the trunk.

Yeah.. the left one is lights, and the right is wipers and A/C.
In standard 80s fashion everything goes odd from there. The fog light switch is behind the parking brake next to the differential lock, the "winter" mode for the wiper is next to the hood release, the temperature and blower speed are next to the shiftier, the parking/hazard lights are on the top of the steering wheel, and the trunk and gas cover are combined into a push/pull lever.

Because of everything being weird and crazy in this car, i would say i enjoy it more than the BRZ at times.
