Thoughts on eBay Oil Cooler kits?
This seems MUCH less expensive than the cost for some of the other oil cooler kits available from well known companies. It's looks like quality stuff. Does anyone have any insights to offer (good or bad) on this?

I'd be interested in hearing what people think as well. We'd have to fab our own mount for this vs a pre-fabbed system, not sure if there are any other downsides.

In all honesty, the price difference itself almost warrants a purchase. 200 as opposed to 6-700 dollars.

Yeah, that's exactly why I'm asking. On the other hand of all of the all on parts on a car this is definitely one of the ones you never want to leek or fail. Are the other parts 4-500 better (and if so, why?)

Most of the high end ones will use Mocal products which are pretty tried and true. They are more $$ for sure. The biggest thing with these e-bay units is that they likely do not come with the sandwich spacer needed to raise the oil filter sandwich up out of the oil collection valley. They are also not likely thermostat integrated like the Mocals. You dont want your oil to be cold like that for long periods especially if you live in cold climates in the winter.

Throw the sandwich plate away and get the mocal one since it has the thermostat for warm up.

As told by more experienced men than me. This is why I love to read forums and do all my own work.
Not a bad option to buy the kit and replace the sandwich plate as suggested. |

You could always buy all the DIY stuff from racerparts and get an inexpensive core... there are less expensive core options than mocal... or you could get this: http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/p.../OilCoolerKits probably better quality than ebay and costs less.

You got it. Your pictures you posted show a spacer in the top pic and the second without. The spacers come in various designs. Without the spacer there will beinterference for the in/out AN fittings.

it wasnt purchased via usa ebay, but my friend runs a no name oil cooler he got online here in japan on his bnr32 and it has zero issues beside the lack of thermostat causing overly low oil temps in the winter, or so we thought. his temp sensor is on the inlet side of his oil cooler sandwich plate so its reading right after the oil cooler, so its a little hard to trust as the numbers as he was peaking 80 celcius on fuji speedway pushing 500-550 whp.
