You may want to read about an issue with the injectors, http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20930

Could be completely unrelated, but figured id point it out. Also, make sure the battery has enough juice.

Try to allow the ignition on acc just before you try to turn it over for about 10sec. Thus allows the ECU to gather its data for engine management . Remember the starter is the biggest load and draws over 100 amps.

You should turn the car to ignition, just one click shy before starting.. Just for a second or two then start it.. This turns on the fuel pump and pressurizes the fuel system.

Sit in the car, turn key to ACC, put on seatbelt, start car. Its a good way to give the car time to do its start up check.

Yep, pretty much what everyone else above has said. I had the same issue, so I started to be more patient, turning the key to ACC and letting the gauges come to life, before starting the engine. In fact, I even set my RPM limit at 7400 JUST so i can watch and wait for the tach sweep before I start the car.

This has happened to me once or twice. I have the limited BRZ. I immediately start the engine when I plop down in the seat, and have no problems since. I would not worry about it unless it becomes a regular occurrence.
