First Autocross Weekend Reflections
![]() Well, I headed up to Fort Wayne this weekend for their "Solo School" and their region's first SCCA solo points event. My reaction: Had a blast! Finally got a chance to try and wrestle with the car in a legal environment. The day of the "school" they gave us some basic instruction, had instructors walk us through the track, and then gave us about 8-10 runs. Pretty good seat time! The weather was a cool 74 degrees and sunny and awesome. I ended up taking off all nanny controls by my last couple of runs and boy was it worth it! Today was a different story however, it was cooler (55-60?) and WET! Rain, mist, rain, clouds, mist, rain. I decided to keep most of my nanny controls on the first couple of runs, and used VSC Sport halfway through. I didn't have the balls to take it fully off in the rain Still had a blast though! Turns out I'm really too aggressive in some spots, often times I'll end up giving it too much gas, having either the tail spin out or the stability system cut the revs. Despite placing about 34/52 on the PAX rating, I still had a good time and am looking forward to future events! Here's a quick iphone video of one of my laps (ignore the Roush Mustang before me lol) .... [ame]http://youtu.be/y2FJLkLPPm4[/ame] |

We ran over at the Tire Rack today in South Bend. Probably similar weather conditions. They run what they call a 180 street tire class. Any car running, whether stock or not, is thrown into this group then paxed. There were 17 entries in this class. After the first 3 runs I was leading on raw time and pax, but the track was damp. Everyone in the class only had about 1 semi dry run, then it started raining again. I dropped to 4th overall when the higher horsepower cars were able to gain a little more traction. I got beat by a Porsche Cayman, a Boss 302, and a JCW Mini. I'm still figuring the car out, so hopefully things will get better.

Good lord that lot looks dangerous for an SCCA approved sanction... Glad you had a good time! Keep at it. Seat time is the one best thing you can do to get faster!
