NASA TTD Track Record at Sebring!
I'm at Sebring this weekend and was hoping to challenge for the TTD class record.
It stood at 2:34.15 - set a few years ago by a supercharged Miata with a good driver. I was able to do a bit better than that today. 2:31.893! Video to come soon...

Damn Jon, nice work! Looks like you're hell bent on breaking every track TTD record lol.
Was that Joshua's record in TTD? |

For those who aren't familiar with NASA Time Trial competition, I'll try to break it down as simply as possible:
Every car is assigned a base classification. The classes are TTF, TTE, TTD, TTC, TTB, TT1/2/3 in order from slow to fast. Any modification you do to the car adds "points" to your car. You are only allowed to spend 19 points within your class, once you asses your 20th modification point your car gets bumped up to the next highest class. So as you can imagine it becomes very important to be smart about your mods and how you spend your points. The full rules are here: http://www.nasa-TT.com They can seem overwhelming and confusing at first but the system is designed to equalize cars as best as possible. I recommend attending an event and talking to your local TT racers and series directors if you're interested in friendly competition. The FR-S platform has proven extremely competitive so far. See my previous post about nearly winning the National Championship last year. So, the FR-S is a base class of TTD which leaved me with 19 points to spend without getting bumped up to TTC. There is also a weight to horsepower ratio that you cannot exceed: for TTD it is 14.25:1. If you are lower than that, regardless of points, you get bumped up. I actually still have a few points to play with within my class, but it's almost to the limit. It's a great format for HPDE drivers to bridge the gap between driving for fun and full out wheel to wheel racing.

I think that was Josh's car with Victor Leo driving it. Josh came up to congratulate me, but that was this morning when I put up a 2:33.2... I'm not sure how he feels about a 31! Another friend is building a TTD Civic that is apparently going to be a monster - but it won't really be ready until later this year. They think that car in D trim will be in the 20s around Sebring, which would be very impressive.

Haha, too funny. L.D. told me you are on coilovers; which brand, and how did they do at Sebring? I'm at Sebring about once a month, and I want to find a coilover that can put up with a track that rough, without having to step up to a crazy custom Penske setup or something along those lines. |
