Cams?

Any news on cams for this engine?

I heard last year somebody was researching into it, but haven't heard anything lately.

Just curious.

Nothing substantial as of yet, but I do remember a thread about Perrin making some cams and all sorts of other goodies!

It's been said the heads of the FA20 are pretty bang on from the factory. Not sure if new cams cost/gain would be worth the effort.

That looks like an entire stock motor disassembled though...so...

unless you mean to tell us HKS is making aftermarket blocks and crankshafts, rods and pistons too...

but yes you are correct those are camshafts at the bottom of the left page

I'd spend $3k if cams could get the FA20 to 230-235whp NA e85. It would be money well spent to me.

I heard a rumor that fullblown was developing cams.

There's no voodoo in cams. Just speak to a cam manufacturer company and get them to grind you whatever profile you want. You don't have to wait for some aftermarket tuner or whatever to put some junk up on the shelf.

With 100 hp per litre.. I agree that it's already pretty aggressive from the factory.. Plus the fact that there is VVT on both the exhaust and the intake side..
They seem to be optimized pretty good.. I'm sure the tuners have tweaked this area for more power too.. Too much lift would hurt the drive ability.. Especially on a small displacement engine.. Will be interesting to see what comes out.. Seems like it would be a big PITA to replace cams in this thing.. Will be interesting to see a year or two from now what's available for this car... And how much power they will squeeze from this puppy of an engine..
Most will go the FI route.. As its the best way to make more power from small displacement engines..

I think anyone who is actually interested in cams will have a good idea of the cost:benift ratio. People looking for cams will most likely prefer the way a motor feels and sounds with cams compared to the ultimate torque and power FI produces.

I believe the stock cams are around 255* with 12mm lift. There was a thread somewhere on the HKS ones and they were only about 265* to compliment the stroker kit they had, which i think is whats on the rest of the page in the above post.

Personally i think something around 272* would be nice in this engine with intake and exhaust mods to suit.

I'm also pretty sure Don @ Accelerated performance is running big cams on his latest turbo setup. Have a search, it sounds beastly.
