difficulty with light swirls on hood

Looking for some tips/advise. I had some light swirls on the hood and above the windows (below the roof). I have a Griots Garage polisher and used an orange medium polish pad with Optimum Polish on speed setting 5. The area around the windows seems to look better but i can't seem to get much success on the hood. Am i using too rough of a pad? Should i go down to the green lighter polishing pad or maybe the medium polish pad but with Optimum Poli-Seal that has a lighter abrasive?

Depends. We can't tell if you're failing to remove the swirls that are there, or making new swirls. Try a lighter cut. If that doesn't work, you need MORE cut.

Wax just temporarily hides the swirls.

yea i was thinking about maybe starting lighter and working up. might try some poli-seal on a lighter green polish pad since the poli-seal has light abrasives. worst case i have optimum compound as well but id rather not go that heavy on light swirls if i don't have to

Hate to say this but if you can't work out which level cut you need next step is buffing compound and elbow grease, a LOT of elbow grease. Do you have a yellow foam buffing pad? They are usually the softest followed by gray and then wool I believe. Don't press hard or go too fast. I use pads with a high speed drill, something I learned while restoring pinball machine playfields.
