NSW Rego + CTP

So I just paid my rego + CTP... $1000 gone.
I love that I have to $1000 a year, for the privilege of driving my $4000 car on roads like the M2, Parramatta Rd, Pennant Hills Rd and Pacific Hwy.
Srsly NSW government, this is blatant gouging.

You pay $325 (well, I do) to the RTA to register the car, the rest goes to your insurer to cover you against third party personal injury (for example, if you give someone a broken leg by crashing into them). this is compulsory insurance to own and operate a car.

none of those dollars are going towards repairing roads - this money comes from the NSW tax on fuel (the theory being that the more fuel you use the more wear and tear you add to the roads and the more tax you pay).

Rego yes, too expensive.

I don't disagree with the Pink slips or CTP though.

Pink slip is to ensure the car you are driving isn't a danger to others (shoddy brakes, poor tyres etc) and it's not like they cost much to get.

The CTP is designed to cover someone else's medical expenses should you crash into them making them wheelchair bound for the rest of their life.

It does annoy me that CTP's cost different amounts depending on what car you drive :/

But really the whole CTP/Pink Slip thing doesn't annoy me nearly as much as the government charging a tax when we buy the car with our already taxed income, then taxing us for the fuel to run it then using taxpayer dollars to fund roads that end up being run by a private company that then charges us to use said road. THAT is annoying

Rego: $57 ... fine, driving on sealed roads is a privilege not a right.
Motor vehicle tax: $215 ... wait what? Dont I already pay 33% of my income to tax?
CTP: $737 ... wow, seriously? Its insurance against a 1,000,000:1 scenario that I dont have a choice about paying, and it costs $737!?
GOUGING.

would you like to be T-boned by a truck, and crippled or require medication/physio for the rest of your life, and pay that out of YOUR pocket?

its compulsory because everyone kind of agrees that if you are hit by someone else and its their fault, you want them to cover the cost of your medical expenses.

some CTPs even cover your medical expenses should you be at fault. GIO does this.

I'm not saying I don't support the concept of CTP, I'm just angry about the unchecked price hiking. When I started driving this whole process was closer to $500, and I don't see why the cost has almost doubled in only 10 years.

Personally if it were that bad I'd rather be allowed to die. Also I have my doubts regarding any insurance company actually paying out in such a scenario

Move to Vic
Rego $550 (Includes Third party Personal)
Third Party Property + Fire and Theft Insurance $170.
=$720
+No Yearly Pink Slip requirement.

But then its probably only a matter of time before Vic gets the same system as NSW

well for one, Inflation. The vehicle you drive and your driving history. the dubious one is where you live, but I guess youre more likely to hit a pedestrian in the *** than the country and should be priced accordingly.

Not sure I would choose death over life-long treatment of my injuries, not if there is people dependent on me.
