Formula D. Built FR-S cars

I guess this would be the best place to put this as I don't see any subsection for Drifting.

Follower of Formula Drift I always find myself glued to the computer screen for their live stream for the long distance events I can't attend and I religiously get down to the Atlanta, GA event as that's the only one close to me I can attend.

Last year there was one FR-S in Formula D. Ken Gushi's GReddy built FR-S as most of us know. But now there is going to be like 5 or more FR-S/BRZ in Formula D. and I'm losing count/details on them. So, help me dig out and find out who is rumored to be running what.

1) Ken Gushi - GReddy FR-S rocking an Cosworth EJ25 boxer
http://www.speedhunters.com/2012/04/...dy-scion-fr-s/

2) Tony Angelo - Building an FR-S and taking the 2az from the tC and dropping that in.
http://www.scion.com/racingblog/2013...nd-a-new-home/

3) Ryan Turek - Rumored to be running an FR-S for 2013 season. Not sure on the power plant, but rumor is leading towards a 700whp 2jz.
http://www.wreckedmagazine.com/blog/...s-am-spyshots/

4) Otto Graven - Super widebody FR-S (believe there is a thread on this forum as well) with a 1000hp V8 under the hood.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25217

5) Toshiki Yoshioka - Will be running a BRZ (previous drove for RSR in the S15). His video interview, he said he will be going with a TOMEI powered EJ26.
http://www.wreckedmagazine.com/blog/...breaking-news/

That is the 2013 list I have thus far seen. For 2014: "Slide or Die" Dai Yoshihara will be stepping out of the Falken Tires V8 S13 that brought him the championship in 2011 and into a BRZ that Falken Tires will be building. It is expected to also have an LS V8 in it.

Would have thought they would have went with a smaller turbine for better response. GTX4294R is one I would expect to find on a drag car.

Its possible to run a anti lag setup so you get crazy response and huge power. Not exactly feasible on a street setup but easily doable for a track car. Lots of the rally cars run anti lag setups to keep the turbos spun up even when they are braking into a corner

The 2az seems like an odd choice for Tony Angelo's car. But i suppose if you've already got a motor, making good power, laying around why not. Just seems like not the obvious choice.

This might get other car manufacturers to wake up and start making sports cars again....im actually excited to see so many variations on the platform.

True that, Ken Gushi runs Anti-lag on his FR-S.

Tony is probably more of a privateer than he is a WORKS driver. So, saving money I would think would be on the table more often. When you got a motor making 600+whp and nearly the same amount of torque that's reliable, you kinda continue to use it.

So back in the Gushi Tc days what he was doing was running Nos from 1k rpms until 3k when the turbo was spooled up. Not sure if thats the same anti lag setup you are talking about.

No, that's different. Also I'm pretty sure he wasn't running Nitrous on his tC. I probably will ask him to verify, but I'm almost positive he wasn't.

Not quite, but that is an an option.

One option would be to route a small amount of air/fuel into the exhaust pre turbo and have it burn through the turbo causing the turbo to spool up and release pressure via bov while keeping the turbo running way faster then needed.

Then when they get back on the throttle, bov closes and turbo is already spooled up and go from there.

Other design I've seen is heavily retard timing to cause late ignition and do the same thing basically, gas is still burning through the turbine causing a spike in the turbo rpm.

Obviously its going to wear the turbo down way faster but for some of these cars, rebuilding things is considered normal maintenance.
