I went last September and we only got 5 runs. It was a long day for only 5 runs too. There were also 141 cars which was way more than I expected. If it all works out well and its organized you should expect 6 runs.

I'll be there on Sunday too. I got a brand new camera so I'll probably be wandering around taking photos of all the cool cars.

EDIT: If you have never been before, It's a long day. You definitely want to bring snacks lunch a chair for when your not working plenty of water and sunscreen.

There are plenty of people to help out and ride along with you to make sure you learn what to do and give you tips. Just sign up as a novice and let whoever's running it that you'd like someone to help you learn the ropes.

I've never done anything like this before. But I expect there will be plenty of friendly people there. And I am planning on signing up for this come June:

Also, how else will I [legally] enjoy the car at its limits?

There will be a few FR-S/BRZ's there. Will be my first time as well. Goal is to make at least one friend and come back with nothing broken.

seems expensive. I thought there was an autocross class that was only $100?

The Boston BMWCCA (http://www.boston-bmwcca.org/Autocross/Default.aspx) has a couple autocross schools per year which are ~$100, but you need to have a national BMWCCA account in order to register. The national account costs ~$40 per year, but you can then join in on the regular events that the club hosts, autocross or otherwise. You don't need a BMW to join, either.

TCUSA has a much looser classing structure than the SCCA. If you're looking for a classing structure based on car performance, it's not the best place for it. There are some classes specific for mustangs, corvettes, and miatas, but other than that you're basically all in one big group. If you're just looking to have fun doesn't matter at all but if you're really competitive it could be annoying. They also keep the attendance number low so that people get 8+ runs in over the course of the day, which is great.
