Angry Windshield chip

So last night the driving gods decided to grace me with a rock to the windshield whilst I was having a lovely cruise through the city. When I heard the stone smack into the glass, the first thing I thought was "@#$& there goes a couple hundred for a new windshield", but after reviewing the damage (it was dark out) the chips are pretty much the size of dust specks. I'm not looking into replacing the whole thing, but I wanted your guys' collective opinions on repairing the chip. Should I DIY, take it too a shop, or ignore the chips? I only ask because I've heard that damage to the windshield can get progressively worse.

Thanks in advanced.

IF you have to ask about it, take it to a professional.

That's the thing though, I don't want to bother taking it to a shop if I don't have to. If people have had good experiences with the DIY kits then I'd rather do that.

There are guys on street corners that advertise "Rock Chip Fix" "Windshield Repair" in nearly ever city ive lived in. Find one of those guys, they usually charge 20 bucks or so. It takes 20-30 mins.

The place I get my car handwashed has a guy who checks for chips. They found one on mine and did a fill. Didn't cost anything b/c they went through my insurance. Maybe ask local detailer??

I've used a DIY repair kit from amazon on my beater car. It was a huge nasty chip that would've spidered no doubt. It fixed it up pretty good. I can still see the chip but it's not nearly as bad as it was before fixing it and it hasn't spidered. It's been about 2 months so far so good. I wouldn't hesitate to use this kit again.

do you have glass coverage on your insurance? I've had multiple windshields cracked on various cars and it's always completely free. They set me up with SafeLite and i either go to the shop near me or they send a mobile tech to my house to fix it up or replace the entire windshield

if it's just a chip, buy the repair kit from walmart/autozone/whatever is near you.

I am no professional, but I fixed few big chips on my dad's van. It works nice. It fills up the chip/crack so it won't expand/crack during cold weather.

btw, I also found rock chip on my windshield
it's an easy fix, don't worry about it.

In florida it is covered by insurance at no cost to the owner. They consider it a safety issue. I can't stand the look of the repairs. Replace is only option for me.

I haven't really looked at Maryland's coverage, but going through insurance due to those small rock chips isn't worth my time...
Good to know though.

I have a small chip/crack on the passenger side of the windshield. I need to get it filled, but I've been putting it off. Almost out of sight - almost out of mind.
