Gimmick Motorsports Hood Strut Install and Review
I picked these up used and decided to throw them on and do a review. Overall I am happy but I would go with Grimspeed if I had not gotten these used. The seller said they had not been on the car too long but they looked like this when I opened the package.
Thankfully I am good with some sand paper and a spray can and I was able to fix it real quick. If I were to look for a set again I would get the Grimspeed since they powdercoat them instead of paint them. ![]() ![]() The full article is posted on my blog. http://www.jadecrew.com/scion-fr-s-s...struts-review/ |

I have the Gimmick set which works well, but the Grimmspeed seems engineered better.

I think they will be fine for what they are but since the price is about the same I agree the Grimmspeed looks better engineered and is powdercoat.

I also have the gimmick ones and they are fine. I was careful installing them so there are no chips in the paint on them. I mainly got them over the Grimmspeed ones because they were the only ones out at the time and I got in on the group buy price.

Anyone with these have theirs squeek? My right side one makes a noise when going up and down. I threw some wd 40 on the shaft and it fixes it for a few days.

I thought I told you about that spot..my bad I should have just painted it for you before I sent them to you. Yes, that was after a month of using them. I probably opened the hood 3 times in that time span as well. Never noticed any squeaking.
I also was "careful" installing these, what you see is how they were after deciding to take them off. I never touched them otherwise. |
