Cool Moving to L.A. from Australia

Hey guys,

I am moving over to LA next week, from Australia... Well I am still going to be back and forth a lot, but I am working on projects in both countries, so I needed a home base there

I have an apartment sorted in West Hollywood area, but I dont know a single person in all of USA, so I am hoping to make contact with some people so as to not be completely in the dark when I get there

I am a car nut (I have a turbocharged 86, BMW M5 V10, Porsche Boxster S, and a few other cars over here in oz), so was hoping to get the low down on where to go for car meets, check out some work shops and so forth.

I am going to be looking into buying a car as soon as I land, currently have my eye on a nice M6 over in Orange county, but I have heard the dealers over there can be sharks (same as anywhere I guess), so I was hoping to get some inside info to make sure I don't get burned.. If anyone can suggest a place to buy a car, or where to specifically avoid, I am all ears :P

Would love to meet some peoples and get to know the scene there too, so if anyone wants to hit me up on here just PM me and can chat :P

Hope it's not as scary as the news makes it seem, with gun wielding maniacs everywhere (JK!)

Mark

Lmao.. Before I moved to Cali I was so nervous about this.. Outside of Cali all you hear about is crime, muggings, shootings, and police pursuits.. Once I finally got to so cal, the only thing that got me was the bums that beg for money everywhere you go.. And some have great stories..

It's like all places.. You find trouble if you go looking for it, or catch yourself in the areas you shouldn't be at.. The rest, I can't help you, but I do know there are some amazing roads and great people there.. Now if you ever head over to Vegas, make sure you hit us up at the Vegas86 club

Are you looking at new or used? My coworker just bought a new M3 from Long Beach BMW; I'll ask him which salesman it was when he gets back from vacation as it sounds like one in specific is really cool.

And welcome to California, believe me you'll like it here!

Welcome to California! You'll like it here. There are also a few meets here and there. One of the big ones for us is the Torrance Crossroads on the first Friday of the month. So that would be on the 5th. There's usually quite of bit of us there.

As far ask BMW is concerned. I used to work as a tech at Center BMW in Van Nuys. You could check that place out if you want. Unfortunately I never made friends with any of the salesman because I knew if I did they would start to come to me for favors. Didn't want to deal with that. lol I still have friends that work in service there so I could at least get you help that way. As far as I know that dealer is still family owned too.

Since you already have a M5 V10, I would buy something different rather than a M6 coupe lol

Crime isn't nearly as bad as the media makes it out to be. Beaches suck compared to what you have. Not sure how bad traffic is in your area but avoid rush hour in Socal.
