Watch out 86/FRS/BRZ... Honda's about to strike back!

Some Honda insider (RolledaNSX) is spilling the beans at the moment...

Key words:

The talk from Japan is the new roadster will be more like the S800 with Beat engine location.So bigger than a Kei-car but smaller than a CR-Z.It will have a hardtop option and the talk is it will be global.Might see that new 1000cc I3 engine in NA and turbo form. And the NSX has been seen testing in the snow.

I dig a little deeper. In Japan It will be Kei-car size and have a Dohc S07 660cc I3 Turbo that will be tuned for higher rpms than the same engine in the N-Box.To get around the 64 hp max law it will be hybrid.Will look like the EV-STER and there will not be a EV model. Price 1.7 million yen to 2 million yen World Most likely will be a little bigger and have a 1 liter I3 turbo hybrid...built in Mexico and Thailand

And for the confusion about what platform it will be built on is because there might be three specs.

Japan..... built off the N platform(Kei-car)

Japan export.... built off the N platform but bigger with 1L turbo engine

Global..... built off the Fit platform with 1.5L turbo engine

At the moment only the Japan market one has the full green light.....should go on sale July 2014

Also working on a S2000 replacement Must be cheaper than the last S2000 get exterior design idea from the N-One (round headlights) Will not build a standalone platform for it(will not lose money like the last one) So researching to find what platform will work The board and top investors don't want to make sports cars,that sell in very small numbers, they can't justify all the money they must spend to design/develop a 2.0L class sports car.

This is my two cents(speculate) from the rumors of the past few years.The mags been hearing little bits but putting the info to the wrong models. 1) I do believe Honda is working on a Global Beat2.0/Evster because of them taking the Evster to the American and Euro Auto Shows to see if there was interest and there was great interest!!!And most likely with the new 1.0L turbo engine. 2)Also that Honda is working on a Global 2.0 Class Sports Car.I think that is the info that the new Beat was going to built of the new fit Platform came from....the mags speculated the wrong car.Honda is spending alot of money on the new CTR to make it go fast and I don't see Honda to just waste that money for only a low volume EU Halo Car...Now Japan might see it too but I think the rest of the World will see that chassis with a different body style and maybe 4WD.

They say the S2000 replacement finally got the ok. Plan release date is in 2015. Will be retro(N-ONE design clues) 60's GT look. Beat,NSX,CTR to be release in 2014. The NSX at the Goodwood festival of speed will most likely be the 2014 SuperGT/DTM 2.0L turbo Racecar.

Clues? Take the modular 90 degree vee engine and take two cylinders off the V6 and you have a 2.0L V4. With a V4 the Gen 2 S2000 could be a foot shorter(ligher) than Gen 1 S2000 and be able to keep the low front end(I4 wouldn't pass the new pedestrian safety laws with a low nose). And a V4 would make it unique!!! And the bike guys know V4 means racing heritage!!!

The Beat replacement is MR. The story I read in MAG-X was that Honda was in a bind because in 2008 they killed the RWD platform.So there wasn't going to be a true S2000 replacement but with the success of the GT86 they changed their minds and with the demand for the new N-ONE they know what it should look like.Also the writer didn't know what platform,he was speculating bringing back the old S2000 plank but I don't see that because of the new crash test rules. I love Hondas, always have. I love the s2k, it was designed from the ground up. Looks like this time around they just want to barrow a current FWD platform? Meh, wth out $$$$ spent into research it just won't be the fun car that the 86is. I just don't see it being balanced. Looking at the current gen civic, Honda needs some passion in the line up and IMO barrowing a current platform. Isn't it.

That "FWD" platform can be reversed to make "MR" layout. I won't be surprised when the next gen FIT platform/chassis will be designed to excel in sports dynamics from the ground up

A two-seat MR roadster won't have any usable carrying space at all. Perhaps a tiny trunk.

Part of the GT-86's charm is that you can use it as a fun daily-driver or even as your only car. You can hit the twisty back roads, or you can hit Costco.

This is a toy car, on the level of the old MR-S or the Elise. It seems to me this will compete more with the yet-unseen ND Miata and less with our car. You'll get some overlap with people that were buying the FR-S as a track toy or a weekend car, but those of us looking for a sports car with a dash of practical will find nothing to like here.

That said, it could very well be a very fun car - as long as they beat up the guy who made the CR-Z a hybrid and throw him in a broom closet! Nothing will cripple this car faster than a lame-o hybrid powertrain with a gigantic heavy battery pack.

The long nose isn't to fit an engine. The engine barely takes half the length. I'm extremely skeptical of what that guy says, given that I have a lot of friends that work at Honda and HPD

Wow Honda just sucks these days. I'm sure profitability is up, but at the expense of their soul.

Even these renderings make the vehicle look uninspired. I hate to see what it will actually look like.

I really want to appreciate hondas again, I do, but this isn't helping. The last episode of Honda Tuner even had the CEO of AEM dogging Honda in it's late years

I'm a die hard Honda fan... But they've really let me down these past couple of years. They've basically came out and said they aren't interested in making sports cars right now and their latest Si is lazy and uninspired. I always thought my first new car purchase would be a Honda, but I went with Toyota instead. I know Honda is a huge company with no ties to me, but I feel betrayed by them somehow. Weird, I know.
