Bathurst Easter for the 86

Hi All,

I will be running the #86 86 at Bathurst for the Easter weekend... I believe entry to the Bathurst Festival of Speed is free so come and see us... We are happy to have fellow 86'rs in our pit garage... we are sharing with the guys from Bendigo Pedders and I have a coffee machine.. identify yourself as an 86'r and you are up for a coffee ...

Oh and if we happen to hit the mountain we might ask for the odd panel, engine etc: ... what a great weekend for the 86... Support pedders for a few laps around the track..

Prestige Auto Traders are backing us so if your in the market for a fast Euro ... they are the people !!! Yes I know.. shameless sponsor plug... if you liked that then DBA and Royal Purple are also on the list..

In any case come and look at the car... many mods of the hand made kind..

If you can't make it have a great time for Easter

It's actually practice on the Friday and racing on Saturday...

Qualifying driver A and B on Sat, then race for driver A then later for B.. the finishing place for driver B will determine grid position for the Sunday Enduro..

Grant from Pedders and I are running out of the same pit garage... you will find the 86'rs in the main pit complex towards pit exit... come on down !!

We (both 86's) still don't have log books from CAMS as yet !!! It would appear our competition ... no names but they drive Integra's and BMW's do not want us in the field.. they have been lobbying CAMS to have us excluded from class C.. so far CAMS are listening and require a heap of measurements and stuff from the FIA..

They are being painful .... they need to make a decision today !!! Pedders and I have very expensive race cars with no class ... CAMS did suggest we go Production sports against Ferrari, Audi, Lotus and Porsche etc .... I mean really ??? WTF?

I will be on the phone to CAMS again shortly

What are they lobbying about? They should be in the same class as the Intergras....Bunch of sore losers.

Just re measured the interior dimensions.. have to wait till Monday for more word..
Have to spend another 3k on another four tyres and some rims for the wets .. don't even know if we will get the log book as yet !!!

Are we having fun yet ... apparently motor sport has more to do with Parliament House than fun competition ..
Standby .....

Well they need to get themselves an 86 and join in the fun, not try to ban it

Or maybe they have one at home and know how good they are

That sucks for you guys!

Just one thing - try not to take it out on the office staff. I know first hand how dealing with competitors with their new cars can get a bit feisty at times. It used to be my job in the NSW CAMS office doing all of the logbooks for the state, although apparently now its all done from Melbourne.
If there is a hold up, I can be certain its coming from higher up.

Oh do I have stories - nearly always really bad, even about some on these very forums!

Hope it all works out for you. I for one want to see an 86 compete at Bathurst!

Unfortunately that's the way things have been going.
Thus the growth of AASA and AMSAG.

Hope they wake up to themselves and issue the log books. There's other 86 production cars being raced in Germany and the US, though I'm not sure it's under FIA rules.
I'm planning on getting a production car log book for mine, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the thoughts... I guess the problem is when they say they will call back.. and don't ... many times... then I had one person who gave me the tough luck response... then I pointed out to a senior person the ran and won the V3 series production class at the Nurbugring 24 hour.. the response was is that an FIA round ... I was a little surprised at that response ... then after ringing the CAMS President I got a fellow who was reasonable and I think want's to get it over the line per the rules of course.. so we will see Monday now ... it gives them a couple of days to get the book to me ... it will be close

All in all it some times get's too hard to make a decision ... but that's the job so I hope then go with us... I know of a few plans to track 86's ... the more the merrier !!!

Was that Andrew Papadopoulos? Before he was CAMS president, he worked on the NSW state advisory panel - he is a good guy, and sensible.

Another excellent person to talk with would be Michael Smith - the general manager of motor sport. He is a top bloke. Was my boss, and now has moved up to this role. He will listen and do what is right. He always did.

Good luck to you.
