AutomationLED LED Headlight Bulbs Review

Whats up, everyone? This is a review for AutomationLED H11 LED bulbs for the headlights of our FRS. The link to purchase can be found at

Here is their thread.

And the seller's username is @jjdrivesajazz

You can also check them out on Instagram @automationLED and they even have their own hashtag #automationLED

I couldn't do some very good comparison photos because of the light in the garage but you'll see the comparison of color and I'll take some night shots later.

Here are some stock photos.

The packaging itself is pretty awesome. These were on backorder for a few weeks while Albert from AutomotionLED waited for them to pass customs. The box is nice. The packaging is nice. Hopefully the product is just as nice.

Each side comes in three pieces: the bulb, the harness, and some black rectangle that I will call the resistor (because I don't really know what it is.) The pieces all just plug in together. The connection from the actual bulb to the harness looks a bit gentle so you might want to wrap that with tape or shrink wrap.

This is all three pieces put together.

This is how it looks like on the drivers side. The silver rectangle has some 3m tape provided and I stuck it on right where you see it. The resistor I fastened with a everyone's favorite plastic securing apparatus. The rest of the harness I placed under the headlight out of sight.

Here's a couple comparison pics of the two.

For those wondering, my turn signals are amber LEDs from DDM tuning. They look nice in these pictures but IMO they're a little too red for me. I have some 5000k switchbacks coming from vleds but they're on backorder too.

The passenger side is a little more cramped. You might want to remove the fusebox to work in there.

Here is with both LED bulbs in. It is a very pure white as AutomationLED advertises as a 4300k. I wouldn't have it any other way for headlight bulbs. The actual output I have yet to see tonight and I will post more pictures.

Shipping: Shipping was prompt and left San Francisco on Thursday and made it to San Diego on Monday. Albert gave me the tracking info via USPS. Seems not to have been banged up and even if it was, this packaging is amazing.

Quality: this is my first time seeing any LED of this size. The actual bulb led part is huge. However it looks very precise unlike cheaper LED companies I've seen. I'd be interested to see how these last in the long haul.

Price: It's $120 for these LED bulbs or $150 for HIDs from TRS. I picked these LED bulbs because I didn't want to deal with the mess of the ballasts. Make it $350 if you want to do a proper retrofit. I think these bulbs are worth it.

Service: I ordered while the website said still in stock and I got an email next day from Albert about them being a huge hit and put on backorder. It took a little under two weeks to get them. Albert was expecting them earlier but they got stuck in customs but he kept all his customer's informed on their whereabouts. As soon as he received them, he shipped and sent the tracking info. He is very prompt with his thread and runs a very nice small business. Pleasure to deal with.

Overall: Let's see how these look at night first. The service, shipping, and install has all been great and I hope the night pics follow through!

Please post your night driving experience/review. I just received my set today and was going to install them in my fogs. Might look at using for my headlights based on your review. I would really like to know how the light is at distance. Same beam range as the halogens?

Thanks

Turning on the headlights is instant and there is no warm up time. The white is very pure but the camera makes it look blue. This really is a 4300k color.

The first thing I noticed against the pantry was there was significantly more light under the cutoff. It wasn't that the light seemed more intense, it was that the light was better distributed.

This is in my school parking lot. Once again the lights are not this blue and are a very pure white.

I drive a couple dark roads on the way home from school and the easiest difference to see is that there is significantly more light directed to the ground closest to you. Everything 15 ft and before is much much brighter than the stock halogens. However, past this 15 ft, the LEDs start to dim down. They're still brighter than the stock halogen bulb but definitely not an HID nor a proper retrofit.

There is still light after 15 ft but you can't see it from my phone because of all the light its picking up from closer than that.

One thing I do like is that there is no obnoxious glare. I didn't want another PnP HID kit but I did want a brighter white light. I don't think I'm going to get any problems at all with people flashing me.

This is the cut-off from about 10 ft from my garage door. After my night class tomorrow I'm going to find a proper wall and measure out the distance and see if I should adjust my headlight level. I might like it a little higher.

Before the FRS with stock halogen bulbs, I was coming from a 1998 Accord with a Morimoto Mini H1 retrofit. I loved the dispersion and this was my favorite mod on my last car. Do these LED bulbs match that? No. If you're looking for the best lighting modification you can do for your car, HID retrofits are still your go-to mod. If you're looking for a cleaner, easier, and cheaper install, these LED H11 bulbs are how to do it.

So getting down to it,

Pros: 4300k White color. No hot spots. Nice wide dispersion. Brighter than your halogens. Clean and easy install. No glare. MSRP $150. AutomotionLED price $120. 10% ft86 discount $108 + shipping.

Cons: Not a retrofit. Reach farther than your halogens but not as much as you'd like them to. Only come in 4300k.

Thanks, AutomotionLED!

Here's my review of the same product. They definitely look amazing but I do have issues with how they actually perform on dark roads. The extra light RIGHT in front of you isn't needed and amplifies the problem of having less light to forward and to the left/right. There is no doubt that the light is brighter than stock and the perfect color temp (IMO) but it's all directed to the wrong places because the projector is not designed to work with it.
