AIRAID u-build-it intake system

Pretty cool concept, especially if there isn't a lot of vendor support:

That is neat, and may be nice if you are looking to modify your intake for a sc setup or some otehr fi setupt oo. I didn't see if they said ti was rotomolded anywhere on there. Did I miss it?

Yeah, not super cheap but exactly what I was thinking, if you end up wanting a custom intake with forced induction it might be a good option. This would have been a great product years ago. With how fast prototyping and plastic products can be manufactured, I'm not sure what the demand will be.

Cool concept, but after their treatment of me and other customers publicly here... they will not receive a dime of my money. I think we'd need more 90 degree bends anyway.... and MAF mount?

This to me is nothing more than the same "build it yourself" Spectre junk at AutoZone. They've had those types of kits for years.

Besides, AirRaid should know from experience that you just can't simply bend some pipes, weld on a MAF mount, toss on a cone filter and expect better performance in every car.

It would be cool to mate up with some FI application that perhaps uses the stock air box and a long cheap looking plastic pipe...*cough*

Hi guys,

We've had the U-Build-It systems out for awhile now and they're starting to gain traction. The main intention of these kits is to work with custom applications where no off-the-shelf intake kit is available, such as an LS swap in an early muscle car, or any type of custom induction system. Basically, if you have something weird or totally custom, the UBI system can help you build what you need. It's not intended to replace an off-the-shelf system or applications where properly designed kits have been produced that bolt into place and don't require a tune. Of course, if the EFI system uses a MAF, then tuning would be required and we've never said otherwise.

The intake tube itself is indeed roto-molded cross-linked polyethylene, so it's strong stuff. The master kits include silicone couplers, a reducer, and a hump hose to help connect the bends and straights. Further, all of the individual tubes, bends, straights, couplers, and such are all available individually. So, if you need an extra 90 degree bend for your build, for example, you can get one. Or, if you just need a 12" straight section and a 45, you can get that, too, without having to buy the entire kit. We've tried to make our UBI program as versatile as possible so that anyone can build whatever they need to make their project work.

Maybe i'm just being blind, but it doesn't look like there is a MAF sensor on the LS or the hemi in the pics. You could certainly generate some sales if you sold a nice looking short tube, with a MAF/vacuum line, individually.

its a good idea, but ones you apply cuts here and there, its gonna look messy.

btw does the AP intake have any dyno results?

They are there in both cases, just not visible. Some of the pics on the UBI page have been supplied by customers that have used the UBI system on their custom application.

We are actually working on a section of tube that has an area to mount a MAF. The difficult thing is that mounting footprints vary among the different sensors. Currently a couple of the velocity stacks we offer have a flat area molded in place that make a good spot to mount a sensor. We are, however, working on some other options as well. Thanks for the input!
