Koenigsegg Camless Engine Testing

I did a search and saw some mentions of camless tech in some of the engine threads but nothing on this particular video. Jalopnik posted an article yesterday in which Christian Von K of Koenigsegg predicted that camshafts would be gone in 10 years. This article linked to an older article in which he was showing off a prototype system and explaining the benefits. I know pneumatic cams are not a new idea, but seeing them in action in a potentially viable system and having a car technology nut explain the tech and it's impact on packaging constrains and performance was so interesting I thought I'd share.

I think we've talked about in the Off-Topic thread for random thoughts, but a separate thread is a great idea. I love the Inside Koenigsegg videos!

You don't need a dual clutch.

Love it.

Koenigsegg has always made incredible cars from a performance standpoint, but something about the design has never inspired that car lust in me like some things do. Watching him explain these concepts more from a place of passion and engineering knowledge than marketing buzzwords and salesmanship and his ability to take fairly complex ideas and make them easily understandable makes me want to give him all of my money. It's not like I'm in the hypercar market or anything, but if I was this man would make a compelling reason for buying a Koenigsegg over the competition.

The Agera R has probably the most brutal acceleration I've seen in a production car. It's just GONE.

The idea of using the air compressor to act like turbos is really really cool

The Future of the Internal Combustion Engine Is Camless

Not directly related to the FR-S/BRZ but interesting, no?

Very interesting. I like how it's not just an "idea" but that they have been running a system for some time now and have results showing its feasibility in real world applications.

Ummm... I am not suggesting this is not interesting but this is hardly new.
"History shows that the idea of a camless internal combustion engine has its origins as early as 1899".
http://www.me.sc.edu/Research/AARG/history.htm
I vaguely remember BMW showing interest in camless engines at least 10 years ago.

From the OP's link:
"But now, in Koenigsegg's shop as it is in many other labs around the world, the cam is turning obsolete."
That is marketing speak for "it is still under development"
