Why did my disk rotors turn white?

Hi Everyone

I'm not too worried by this but am curious if anyone else has seen this before.

I took my 10 day old 86 GTS to it's first track day (with under 500kms on the clock). I'd put some Ferodo DS2500 pads on the front brakes and a set of Yokohama Advan A048 semi-slick tyres. Sandown is a pretty hard circuit on brakes.

I didn't have any brake issues all day but did notice the outside of the rotors had turned white. I'd never seen this before and was wondering if it was normal? It doesn't seem to wipe off easily (but I've not removed the wheel and tried hard to clean it.

There was another 86 there and this didn't happen (it was about 1 month old and had OEM tyres and brake pads).

I'm thinking maybe some sort of protective coating that's cooked off. Maybe the new pads?

Your thoughts?

You heated the rotors up. Totally normal

On the rotor surface, that looks like a very nice transfer layer/film from the pad.

Thanks Mike. Will do.

I'll put up a post about my first impressions of the car as a track-day warrior.
