Dealer wanted me to buy

Hi all,
Ordered my FRS firestorm.
I am planning to keep her till very very end like my current Celica (so far 19 years). Dealer wanted me to buy the 7 years extend warranty and paint protection.
I have no problem buying the extend warranty since it is refundable if not used. But I don't know about the paint protection, it is not like the 3M clear bra.
Any suggestions. Thanks.

I bought my car off the lot (did not order), and the dealership did a terrible job of keeping the paint scratch-free (from washing). I'd suggest checking out your dealership throughout and know what kind of products and services they do.

Extended warranty. Well listen up, if you modify something, like put different transmission fluid than stock, and something goes bad, Subaru will not back you up. You have to go by their recommended service and upgrades and nothing else, or it's void.

Paint protection is a common dealer scam. Don't buy it. Put a good paint sealant on for less than $15.

Here in phoenix if you go cheap on the paint protection film it will quickly turn yellow from the sun. I would stick to 3M products just to be save.

Interesting, no one told me the extended warranty was refundable. They did a terrible job of washing my car at the dealership, so I try and take care of it myself. I caved in on the vast majority of the warranties. I don't have the fortune of being able to put mine in a garage, and my last car started to suffer after about 6 years, so given that the warranty on the finish was 7 years, I saw it as being worth it. My last car was quoted at $3000 to get it back to showroom (before I unfortunately totaled it).

I'm definitely against paying the dealership for paint protection. Also, as most here already know, I am firmly against extended warranties. If something survives infancy (within the factory three year warranty) it's a safe bet that it's not a faulty part. If you drive your car sensibly and maintain it sensibly there should not be a need for an extended warranty. I've been buying cars since 1952 and have never taken an extended warranty on any car, motorcycle or home appliance and I have yet to regret it one time.

If you do some research you'll find that dealerships make more money off the "stuff" they try to sell you than they do off the car itself.

Thats an easy pass. I know they offer free car washes for 3 years, if you notice anything wrong just blame them for it and they should be responsible. the damage they do to your car is their responsibility and the damage you do to yourself is you...that paint protection plan sounds like a scam unless you know you cant take care of your own car

The only warranty that sounded worthwhile was the wheel one. But I think if you care enough to get curbed wheels replace or repaired you are probably careful and probably get aftermarket wheels anyway.

Basically don't get anything the dealer tries to sell you.
If you want a clear bra, ask the dealer who installs the product for the them and go straight to them and get it plus your windows tinted for the same price. As for the coating, just use a good sealant/wax.

Most likely it is a sealant and not a 3m clear bra or he would have stated it was a clear bra option.

Do not buy the paint protection because it will have to be reapplied every 2-3 years anyway and it's overpriced at the dealer.

Never buy extended warranties at the stealership. You will get a letter before your factory warranty expires asking if you want the extended warranty at a much cheaper price then what the dealer would charge.

Do your research about the products available and your plans for the car.

The Extended Warranty is cheap insurance with the hopes that nothing big goes wrong after the 3/36 and 5/60.

You could accomplish the same "coverage" by putting the money that you would spend on the Warranty in a high interest account for the life of the loan or longer.

This would be about as much a gamble as buying the Extended Warranty in that your hoping nothing big enough goes wrong to sap the account dry.

The paint protection is generally a pretty good sealant. Nothing more. The sealant itself is not really what you are buying though. Your usually buying a Warranty behind the sealant that if anything (acid rain, bird poo, tree sap, etc.) causes damage it will be covered.

If you've kept a car for 19 years you probably have a good idea of what kind of coverage you'd need. Think about what you would have done the same and/or differently.

i agree.this is "dead nuts" accurate. also these warranties have many ''exclusions" that you MUST understand,BEFORE you spend your money.
if you read the entire agreement very thoroughly, you will determine that NOTHING is 100% covered, regardless of the level of payment. read, understand, and KNOW before you commit.

right! wax the car a couple of times a year with a ''good" wax" don't get sucked in! keep the money in YOUR pocket! don't be stupid with the money, don't give it to the dealer!
