Gay FR-S/BRZ drivers

Ok I'm not Gay I have a wife of 4 years but I have been autoXing with a guy for months and he said he didn't feel comfortable telling me because it's a sports car group. I was wondering if anyone honestly cared? I felt more upset that he thought I was going judge him because I liked sports cars. I don't think a sports Car has to have a sexual orientation and I'm happy for anyone who buys one and enjoys it. Any thoughts on this?

Not trying to be offensive in any way just wondering if we are excluding people by association as sports car owners.

It seems to me that the stereotype has been around for a long time. I believe it has to do with people who may never likely have kids. Thus why someone in a two seater sports car is automatically either gay, having a mid life crisis, or both.

Does it suck that stereotypes exist? Yes

Should you have gotten mad he hadnt told you? No. You don't know him outside of auto x so he might have a different personality with his family/coworker/friends and you should take it as a compliment that he came out to you as he may not be out with everyone else in his life.

I have been autocrossing for years and many people at those events have miatas. That's just a part of them and I can accept that.

Being open with your sexuality to others can be iffy. You might make a good friend, then they find out you are gay, and they will feel uncomfortable and distance themselves from you. Culture in the US is a lot better about it than it used to be, but there are still many people who just "aren't cool" with it. He probably just didn't want to risk losing you as a friend.

Meh, I'm 22 and my GF loves that I have a sports car. It's not expensive so no mid life crisis here lol. As for gay people in a sports car, I have a co worker who's flaming and he drives an s2k. Must say I was always a bit jelly till I got my FRS though haha.

I don't see what cars and sexual orientation have in common.

I've never cared what sexual orientation anyone is. Funny thing is that I tend to attract the same sex (my wife and family make fun of me for it all the time). Regardless of what your sexual orientation is, that one part of your life does not make you any different than everyone else.

I can assure you that there are a significant number of gay FR-S drivers. It's just a fact about any group with anywhere from 3-5 percent of people being gay.

Car culture is pretty macho-BS so I can understand why gay guys would feel uncomfortable coming out. I'm not gay, but I've marched in the SF pride parade twice, once with my kids. Hopefully people can feel comfortable being who they are on this forum.

If someone is gay, I think they should embrace it. Personally I don't judge anyone. I've met people before, and have had to ponder whether they were gay or not (had a roomate in college, but never put my finger on it, and never asked, but I was fine with that).

This should probably be in off topic though.

My fiance named my FR-S "Panda" because it is white, little, and pretty adorable. Is that gay?

For cereal though, anyone who is a motoring enthusiast is okay in my book - gay or straight.

I'd be flattered if he came out to me, given the circumstances. If your relationship has been based solely on cars/racing/etc. its easy to see why he could be a little uneasy about telling you. It probably means that he likes your friendship and was worried about risking it because there still are people out there who are homophobic and the general stereotype for car guys seems to be a bit macho. The fact that he told you means that he probably feels like he can trust you now after getting to know you for a little while.

I don't think it would be because he was seeing if you would bite though... If he was considering that, he would have noticed your wedding ring and known.

Either way, just be glad that you've found a good auto-x buddy to race with

If anything, being into cars should HELP break some of the tension between Homosexuals and Homophobes.
