Opinions in for sale threads?
I'm interested in other people's thoughts on this, Given we have a specific "For Sale/Classifieds" section and a regional forum, I've always believed that this (the general forum) is for opinions, and the classified forum is for buying and selling.
I've noticed a few for sale threads have ended up with people's opinions of the product being sold which is annoying for the seller and takes the thread off topic. Unless the product is illegal, unsafe, or blatantly doesn't/won't/can't do what the seller is claiming then unless you are either interested in the product or have a genuine question about condition, why not keep the opinions here in the regular forum? I know this is the internet and all, but classifieds is classifieds not "Please give me your opinion of what I have for sale". There are a squillion other places on this very site where your opinion is relevant (or may be), will increase (or decrease) your e-penis, and you can tell everyone your sage thoughts on XYZ supercharger, or exhaust, or wheels. |

LOL @ e-penis.
Unfortunately nothing much you can do. Its the internet. That's why I only offer things on one particular forum (like this one) and never branch out into heaps of different sites. Too hard to control and there are trolls everywhere. This is definitely one of the better forums though. |

I have really mixed feelings on this. Obviously I wouldn't want someone de-railing my for sale thread, but at the same time as a purchaser I like to be informed.
Let's take an example, as a buyer you find someone selling some wheels for $2k that you like. Someone else posts in the thread a link to an online shop that sells them for $1500 new, would you want to know that? Or another example, a for sale thread for a part that's known to reduce power (eg certain intakes/headers)? The onus is on the buyer to know what they are buying of course, "buyer beware" and all that, but it's still a forum which should be an open place to have a discussion to everyone's mutual benefit. Hard to say where to draw the line! |

All good points - My concern was more along the lines of the "Too many people have these" type comments rather than information.
Information is good, opinions about something? |
