Review of my JL Audio PWM110-JXWXv2 powered subwoofer

I had to add some bass to my ride pretty bad but as you guys know our trunks are not the biggest. So my search began in finding the smallest size sub but with a nice punch. I was use to having two 12'' Kicker subs in my last car so I wanted to get as close as possible to that but I still wanted at least 75% of my trunk space. Long story short I ended up with the Jl Audio 10" powered subwoofer and let me tell you I'm not dissapointed It probably wont hit as hard as my two 12"s but for the size of this thing it sounds awesome!
Ill let some pics do some more talking:

Newb question but do you need a capacitor with this ? Considering one too and looks alot better than the bazooka tube.

No. Your good to over 2k watts rms in this car. Then you would be looking at an upgraded or second battery. A cap is a waste of money.

I have a similar setup in my car (and a similar transition from a 12" to a 10"). I added mine to just the stock speakers and stock radio. With the stock radio on Natural SSP, Treble +3, Bass -1 it sounds great. I have my amp's LPF set around 55hz (I like a lower, deeper sound and less higher freqs, and I couldn't fit a 12" in), the gain is at about 1/3. It compliments the music really well and blends nicely on those settings. Bass isn't always about booming over everything else, it's about balance. I love me some thick, hard-hitting bass, but only if I can still hear the rest. I had a similar setup in my tC with stock speakers and never felt like I needed to replace them. The only issues I'm having now are rattles in the trunk from the subwoofer. I'm probably going to put down some sound deadening material soon, because it sounds great minus the rattling. I never thought I needed upgraded interior speakers since there's always so much road/engine/wind noise. The extra money spent on clarity would be lost to those, IMO, and I only spend big on standard speakers for home theater/home entertainment.

Edit: BTW, a 10" will hit plenty hard, and just as hard as a 12", it will just hit harder at a different range. 12s hit really hard on the deeper frequencies like 30-50hz. 10s hit hard on the more mid bass frequencies like 50-70hz. Both can hit the entire range, but will be noticeably stronger in their "sweet spot" frequency. I definitely miss those low sweep sounds of the 12, but I've got my 10 setup to sound very close without being too overpowering.

Nice setup! I like that the amp is hidden behind it.

Just wondering... how much did this cost you?

The one in the OP is the PWM110-JXWXv2 and retails around $330. It's tremendous value as it includes the integrated amp. If you're asking about mine, it's the CS110RG-W3v3 and retails around the same price without an amp. I got mine for $299 and used the amp from my old car that powered my 12W3v3 in a sealed square box (currently for sale). I've never been disappointed with any JL product. I will buy them all day any day.

To be honest, other than the lack of EQ and custom options of the factory deck, I don't really see a need to replace the other speakers. I feel I have similar or better results with my JL sub and a decent working knowledge of how to tune with the amp settings and limited deck settings. My whole setup + wires and install was still half the price of the OAP+ and sounds pretty dang good.

I was wondering is there an amp turn on wire in the back of the stock head unit? If not what did you for the amp turn on? Thanks.
