Are there any trailer hitch options yet - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Looking for a hitch so I can tow a small trailer for my Autocross stuff.. wheels/tires.. jack etc.. any news on this front at all??

Haven't seen one yet. Been contemplating having one made that bolts to the tow hook spots. Wanting to tow my r6 to track days.

Hopefully there will be something soon! Or maybe I will have to quit being lazy and fab my own.

Personally, I've never understood why anyone would want to use a sports car with 150lbs of torque to tow something, but that's not really my business, I suppose. Still, and maybe this doesn't matter to either of you, but even the owner's manual expressely advises against this. Not trying to be a ****, but it could cause you troubles warranty wise down the road. Just sayin'.

Its not like I am towing a 20foot boat or something..
maybe 400-500 lbs total.. and its not that uncommon..

Obviously it isn't ideal but I can't imagine it's possible to hurt the car towing 500 lbs. I've had 600 lbs of passengers in my car. Don't really see how that's any different.

Interesting... One of the selling points for the BRZ (for me) is the ability to carry gear to the Autox/track without a trailer.

I wouldn't imagine too many companies jumping at the "opportunity" to rush out a BRZ/FR-S tow setup.... It really isn't a vehicle I'd be eager to tow with.
And very few people are going to do it. Few enough that you're likely going to need to go with something "universal" or something custom.

Yeah, I know guys who do it. It's not unheard of, especially for track purposes. I'm still not a fan, but I understand the practicality of it, too. Just pointing out that the manual actually makes a point of saying not to. Then again, it probably says a bunch of stuff a lot of us will end up doing anyway!

I will get to test that theory here in a couple of weeks.. as I pack my BRZ to the gills with a spare set of 17x9 with 245/40/17 rim/tire package. my helmet, a jack, tools, battery box, mini compressor and provisions/suitcase for a week as I head to the seasons first National event in Ga. I imagine its going to be extremely tight for my 1200 mile journey. Not saying its not going to do it.. but when I add a person to the mix in the spring.. thats where it will get dicey, hence wanting to plan ahead..

.. Lets hope it goes smoothly.

I noticed some MS3 guys were getting trailers for their hatchbacks. Their reasoning was that between the burnt rubber smell and brake dust; it wasn't worth it. Brake dust is nasty stuff and it's hard to cover up for the smell of burnt rubber.

I'm sure some people would love that smell in their cars but I would not.

Bill, you may want to reach out to Mark Hirt of the Chicago region. I believe he worked directly with Curt to have one fabricated using his car as a template. I believe they treated him good and it paved the way for other MX-5 owners such as myself who were able to buy the production hitches thereafter.

I love the trailer option, no other way to carry two sets of wheels/tires plus gear.
