I'm sure iRacing is the best out there now but like you said, it cost money. I don't mind paying a one time fee to purchase but a subscription is a little too much. I'm currently playing Live For Speed (LFS) and GT5 and I think they are both great. Very realistic car physics.

for me gt5 and forza are not tru driving simulator like rfactor and iracing. they are fun, but the drive feel and tracks is not as good and real. but i like all the diffrent cars and mods they offer.its a little more arcade whit a bit of sim in it. forza and gt5 are my first choice for xbox and ps2.

Rfactor and Iracing are the best SIMULATORS iv tried.

Forza and GT are the best racing games iv tried.

TXR and Dirt are the best non-orthodox racing games iv tried

if you can combine all those games into one, pulling the best features and strengths from each...you got yourself the GOD of all driving Racing sim.

I think community assisted racing simulator (CARS) is pretty damn decent, but it's still in beta...
