Dealer Oil change Issue

Just a note for people to keep an eye on. While at P&L today when my car was on the lift I noticed that there was fresh oil on the underside of my car.

I traced it back to the oil plug, and realized that the tech at toyota simply re-used (or didn't install it correctly) the crush washer, and it had a slow leak.

I suspect toyota dosen't use crush washers often, or atleast this tech was unfamiliar and that lead to the problem.

I did call the dealer back and they are going to replace my oil/washer next week. No harm, no foul I suppose since I was able to catch it early, but no one likes to run with oil all over a hot motor.

Same thing here with my first oil change, found oil leaking after a few weeks. I went back and got a free oil change, etc.

Yuck! This is why I would never let a dealer change my oil.

I used to feel that way until the time and annoyance factor out weighed the cost savings.

I used a new crush washer when I changed my oil in the FR-S, but on previous Subarus I've owned (3 of them) I never did. What I did instead was smear a tiny bit of high temp RTV on both sides of the used crush washer and tighten it back down. There was NEVER an oil leak of any kind when I did this. Ghetto, yes, but it was under the car and it worked.

I always watch them working on my car. They have never refused me to be there.
