It was actually because I had no back plate and they threw the tint on there just to be ****s, but it was really my fault I suppose, red car no plate...I guess I was askin for it? Haha

IMHO you got what you deserved. All cars require rear plates across N. America - you drove a brand new car without said plate and got nailed. Did you at least have the plate with you?

As for the tint, you are probably right in that they would not have bothered you about it had you not already blatantly broke a law regarding the plate.

Sucks to be ticketed, but thats the risk we all take with tints, no front plates, test pipes, etc.

I don't know where you are but in CA, we don't get a plate or anything with a new car. Just the stupid dealer advertisement "plate" and a registration paper from the dealer that goes on the front windshield. That being said, although I hate advertising a dealer, having that thing pretty much tells cops "hey this is a new car so I don't have plates yet". But if they pull you over or something else and discover that you were issued plates and just never put them on, then that's a ticket.

As for tint, they're just trying to find anything now. I've already gotten pulled over just for tint, nothing else. Yeah yeah I don't need to hear all the "you're breaking the law" crap, but its annoying that they strictly target this car because its sporty. I have an FJ Cruiser with full tint all around and never got a ticket for tint. I feel discriminated against lol.

They can pull you over for no plate, but if you can show that the RS in your windshield is valid (3 months from date of purchase), then they won't ticket you.

Tint, even light, is probably not legal. 70% is the limit in front in CA... which is REALLY REALLY light...

Finally googled the vehicle code for this - thanks for giving the legal percentage.

The link in case anyone's interested (info's all the way at the bottom).

I read somewhere in CA you dont need plates after buying a car (new or used) for at least 6 or 9 months (dont remember which). There was an article about Steve Jobs and his silver MB SL never having plates. He trades it in for an exact same one every 6-9 months or something and it isnt even a newer SL, it was the one 2 gen ago.

Someone posted thread where factory glass measured 75% so essentially any tint will make it illegal

While I can't find the link, I remember reading the CVC saying that both front and back plates are required 3 months from vehicle purchase. If there's a legitimate reason for the lack of plates (IE: Lost or stolen plates) then there needs a copy of up to date temporary registration.

As for the tinting, I've spoken to a few officers about the CVC for it, and the majority have told me that no aftermarket tint is allowed at all for the fronts, but you can pretty much go buckwild with your back windows and back windshield (provided you have sideview mirrors).

I'll keep hunting for that link, though. It's somewhere on the CA DMV site...

Edit:
@HotLeopardMama provided the link for tints, but here's the link for the plate/registration scenario:
