Just went in for a Test Drive and wooooow!

It was a very boring day today so I decided to go to Toyota and troll the sales people. Moment I walked in I let them know straight up that Im just here to test drive and potentially purchase next month. The salesman was one of the best I have ever dealt with. Absolute respectful and patient person. We went on the test drive and I must say that I love this car even more now. The only thing that bothered me was how soft the clutch is compared to my '97 Prelude.

Anyways, we got back and the salesman tried seeing what my budget was and what they can do to get me to take the car home today. I told them my monthly payments have to be no more than $300 a month and low APR. He brought over the manager and right away the guy tried to use my young age as a factor (im 24). How Im young and I shouldnt worry about bills blah blah blah.

To end the story he offered the car $26k OTD price if I put a $2k down payment so that's $24k. He then asked me how much I wanted for the Prelude. I told them $4500 cause its my 1st cause and Im very attached to it lol. He went on about how they're looking for used cars like mine everyday blah blah blah and he will give me $4k for it. They ALMOST had me!

I told them I let them know in a month or two what my decision is and if the offer still stands, I'll buy it. I really want to be able to keep my Prelude and have the FR-S, but I think Im going to have to give her up =(..

The car is exactly what i want. Whiteout FR-S 6MT only 20 miles on odom

White is sexy, but Raven looks sinister

If youve graduated recently, Scion is also giving a $1k promo towards it in which the FR-S is elegible.

my OTD price was ballpark 25800 with a vehicle list price of 26150. not too terrible id say...

Lol I was bit back when the car was just a rumor. Ive been in the Toyota family since birth and Ive been waiting forever for them to bring something out that I can enjoy. This is it

I just need to be a bit more patient and see how the 2014 model turns out. Maybe I'll wait for the 2015 model, but for a fact I will own a 1st gen FR-S.

Lol im VERY tempted to trust me. Im just waiting to see how the 2014 model turns out. I've been reading about the ECM issues and others and that sort of has me worried. Just waiting til they make it a bit better but Im definitely going to own a 1st gen. My only problem is deciding to keep the Prelude or not as it being my 1st car that ive paid for. Went through hell and back for this girl.

The prelude will end up being a waste of space and money if you have both.

Perhaps, but I still enjoy driving it. I'm the founder of my Prelude Club in Florida too, so it'll be hard to leave my team behind or attend events without my car.

A lot of your concerns were in the earlier built cars. The earlier the production the more likely a problem would show up. As production went along and as problems were found and corrected you'll find that the later manufactured cars don't suffer a lot of the complaints you hear and read about about. My FR-S was built in August. When I first got it I had a little rattle in the rear end but that has gone away by itself. There have been absolutely no other issues with my car and I'm pushing 7,000 miles. If you can swing it, buy it now and enjoy it. If you wait for the 2014 it won't be too difficult to find a reason to wait for the 2015, etc. etc.

So many cars, so little time.

Amen to that, and I'll also add that while you see issues, they are well within the percentage any other regular car faces. Lastly, I have a BRZ in the 1300's production range (got it early June) and I have had no CEL's or any of those big issues (hard knock on wood). I do have some rattles here and there but they don't bother me much. I expected it when I wanted to gout and buy a sportscar.

Amen to that too.

I got mine in November and it's been 8500km and no issues. Only thing is make sure u get your plugs since the dealership and manufacturer forgets to put them in (bottom of car (2) and inside trunk(2) suspension hole).

Good point. Hopefully when me and my family get this house in a few months, I'll go and pick it up. My Association has a stupid rule that only allows Leasers of the apartment to park their cars. Must show proof of registration and insurance. All others will be towed. So even if I do get rid of the Prelude, which is under my father's name the leaser of the apartment, i'm still out of luck of having parking. But I am very glad to hear that those issues were from earlier productions. I think I'll definitely pick it up this year.

Look into that graduation thing. I thought I read you can still get it if you are about to graduate and have a job lined up. You might be too far from that, but it's worth looking into.

That is correct. The scion web site states:

Quote:
HOW TO QUALIFY[1][2]

  • In order to qualify you need:
  • Proof that you have graduated recently or will graduate soon.
  • Proof that you have a job lined up.
Additional Program Features:
  • No money down and no monthly payments for the first 90 days on select finance programs.
  • Waived security deposit (with lease agreements).
  • College Graduate Rebate can be combined with the Scion Pure Lease program or applied toward the purchase of a new Scion.
  • Through your participating dealer, customers who qualify for the college graduate rebate will also automatically get APRs that are available for well qualified customers.
