Is the FRS front grill removal?
I'm trying to install a front license holder w/o drilling into my bumper, but need easy access to the other side of the front grill. Does anybody know if the grill can just be pulled off?

It can't be "just pulled off". I've never done it myself but I think there are a bunch of clips you have to remove from the back of it. Why do you need to remove it? My oem front plate holder just screws in to the grille, and there is always the grimmspeed front plate holder if you don't want to drill into it.

I was able to undo the bottom panel and reach in far enough to hold the bolts that I attached my license plate holder with. I used the stock holder, but positioned it farther down in the grill. It's held to the grill with 4 bolts instead of the screws on top.

Any reason you don't just pick up the Grimmspeed mount?

Punch the grille in with your palm, not with maximum force though. I am not to be held responsible for damages. I took off a bunch of 2012 Corolla grill that way but never tried on the FRS yet. I would believe its a clip on item.

Well, I didn't because I don't like the off center mount on these cars. I had one on my MINI though, and liked it. But that's my personal preference. I ran without a front plate, but I live in Texas and got pulled over for not having it on. So I had to put it on. I did this way so I didn't have to drill into the bumper.

Yeah, I don't like the off-centered look with the Grimmspeed tow mount (plus $70 for something so easily stolen makes me hesitant to purchase). I don't want to drill into the painted bumper area so I'm off trying to rig something [relatively cheap & clean] up for the front grill area. It will block some airflow to the radiator but I'm guessing the slight blockage would not make any discernible difference for city/highway driving.

Apologies - just realised the covers are screwed onto the grill and not through it into the bumper.

I just removed my bumper the other day to install a Perrin's CAI, and the grill is removable. When observing the bumper from the inside, the grill is connected with molded tabs on the bumper and open slots on the grill. No screws or clips hold the grill in.
I wanted to see what the front fascia would look like if the grill was removed. To my surprise, all i had to do was lightly tug on the perimeter of the grill and it easily came off with no damage to the bumper or grill. So i guess to remove the grill with the bumper still on you could just push firmly on grill. |

I think if you got a plastic panel tool in between the grill and bumper you could get the tabs loose without breaking them. I hit a jack rabbit on my way through Eastern Oregon and it pushed the bottom part of my grill in, so if there are indeed no screws it should be easy.

I also want a better looking grill. When my Audi got in a fight with a wayward truck tire, I had the bodyshop put in a honeycomb grill I bought, and it made a world of difference.
