Value.
Do you think in a couple years the twins will hold their value? I'm seeing a couple of these going for sale as used cars higher than what I had bought mine for. I get its more of a supply and demand thing. Just curious on what everybody else thinks.

They will depreciate just like any other Scion or Subaru will, which means they will do alright in depreciation. I wish they were like the Lotus Elise and I'm glad they aren't Mercedes.

Well, I think they'll do better until something comes out that rivals it.
IE The Genesis coupe resale was decent, til this car came out.

The resale of the first gen's will be low in a couple years. As soon as the newer gen's come out that solve the issues of the first gen the resale will go down even more. Up here in Canada anything Scion and 2+ years old is cheap compared to new. I don't expect to be any different for the twins. The car is only selling high right now as there is only 1 generation available and supply is low in areas thus driving the price up. That will go away in 1 years time.

We'll probably either need to up-trade for new gens, or just plan on keeping them for the long haul. I imagine after a couple of years they'll depreciate a decent amount. Unless of course, they stop making them after a couple of runs.

If we keep telling everybody how bad the cars suck, two things will happen:
1) In the short term, more twins will show up on the used car lot. Less new ones will be sold. The general public will notice and hate them too. Toyobaru will lower production numbers year over year. Eventually the platform will be scrapped. It might be depressing for existing owners. 2) In the long term, people will recognize how cool these cars really were and that all of their flaws were really features. Features that they now miss because the GOV is pushing hybrid/OBD3 crap down everyone's throat. The hardcore among us will still have these cars after 15-20 years and we will be best buddies with the fiero and mr2 guys. The End. |
