Seat Ibiza in the U.S.

The 2012 Seat Ibiza has been caught during a siesta stateside, where it has been spotted in both 3 and 4-door hatchback configurations. For those unfamiliar with Seat (pronounced “say-aht”), the brand is the Spanish offshoot of the Volkswagen Group. Seat offers a wide range of economy-minded, and moderately sporty, vehicles throughout Europe, Central and South America, Asia and other markets. The sub-compact Ibiza is one of brand’s top selling models.

2012 Seat Ibiza

A Volkswagen Sub-Compact for the States?
Having been on sale for several years now, the current Ibiza is now due a freshening. From these spy photos, the 2012 Ibiza will have a slightly more mature front fascia, with a flatter rectangular-shaped grille and reprofiled lower air intake. In certain images it appears the new Ibiza is sporting LED headlights – a rather fancy touch for a budget-conscious hatchback. The taillights also seem to have been slightly restyled.

2012 Seat Ibiza

In Europe, the Ibiza is available with vast array of engines, ranging from a gasoline-powered 1.2-liter 3-cylinder to a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder TDI diesel. The Ibiza also happens to ride on the same platform as the current VW Polo and new Audi A1, neither of which is sold in the U.S. So could this Seat’s U.S. appearance foreshadow VW Group’s intention bring a sub-compact to our shores? The company has an aggressive sales strategy and a smaller, cheaper and more frugal model could round out VW’s lineup here.

That sounds great that they are finally starting to bring over some cars from Europe but I wish they would consider bringing Alfa Romeo over here

Interior is rubbish. The Polo and even the Skoda Fabia are way better.

The only interesting thing about the Ibiza SC is that they offer the only 2 liter diesel of this "cousins" cars, the FR 2.0 143 hp, which is actually very fast with a lot of torque.

The 1.4 TSI engine is so fragile...and it burns oil till it's black.
Nothing strange, look how hot it gets!
