Question forfiltermags/ Oil Filter Magnet Alternative.

How much Force does it take to pull of a Filtermag Magnet?

Okay So all know Filter Mags use some type of Neo Magnets

I believe they use N48 magnets or Higher, They have 12- 1''x.25'' Magnets which equates to 36'' of Surface Area. But it is convienent because it has a the plastic to hold all the magnets together. FilterMag RA300 = $75 Dollars SA=36''

I am Looking to buy or build an Alternative system. Cost ~30 SA= 100''
http://www.magnet4less.com/product_i...oducts_id=1156

So i can easily Get 20 Magnets For about $1.50 Each and have more Surface Area. and cost $30

The specs on these magnets are:
-Neodymium magnets Block N50 1" x 0.25" x 0.25" Thick Rare Earth Magnet
Nickel-Copper-Nickel triple layer coated for maximum neodymium magnets durability and protection again corrosion
-ISO Certified, top notch quality and superior performance guaranteed
-Magnetized through the Thickness, poles are on 1" x 1/4" surfaces.
-Approximate pull force: 15 lbs

Or Should I go with and even stronger magnet. Cost ~$30- SA = 40.5''

http://www.magnet4less.com/product_i...roducts_id=815

The Specs Are :
BrMax: 14500 gauss

-Neodymium Magnets N50 1.5 inch x 0.75 inch x 0.25 inch Thick Block NdFeB Rare Earth Magnets

-Nickel-Copper-Nickel triple layer coated for maximum neodymium magnets durability and protection again corrosion
Magnetized through the Thickness

-Approximate pull force: 42 lbs

Note the difference in Pull Force 15lbs Vs 42lbs

I just Want to get your opinions, I am thinking about getting more of the Smaller magnets since they are a lot cheaper.

That's what I have. 75lbs pull force at $45 USD. Why go with you?

I dont quite understand your last question?

Hmm now that i know what kind of Force filterMag has. 75lbs throw a wrench in my plan.
however i am a bit skeptical that the RA has 600+ lbs of force

It's bothering me...

For surface area, 1" x 1/4" is 1/4 sq in. With 12 of those, the area is 4 sq in.

Sorry, couldn't help it. Anyway, I just bought some neodymium sticks and stuck those on the filter. Haven't had an oil change yet to confirm or deny if they are any good though. That alone was like 12 bucks - the 45 dollar one, already wrapped and everything, seems like it will last without chipping.

Yeah I noticed my calculations were wrong too. Isnt SA = legnth x width?

Could you post up your results when you do an oil change.
I just bought some n52 magnets, I will put two on the oil
Filter, and one next to drain plug. My car has ~900 miles on ill do a oil change probably around 1500

I'm trying to figure out how to cut open the oil filter without having a bunch of shavings from the cutting open procedure getting pulled to the magnet so I can get a true view of what it has actually caught from the oil itself. Cutoff wheel and maybe just cut it to the point of being able to pry away the flap? Anyone done one yet?

I'm no mathemagician but 12 x 0.25 = 3 doesn't it?
