Differences between JDM & USDM BRZs

BRZs in Japan has 3 trim levels. From more expensive to least:

S (comparable to Limited in the US)
R (comparable to Premium in the US)
RA (stripper model)

Arguably, Limited > S
Premium is better than R
RA has no comparison but has less features.

S differences from USDM Limited:
S adds leather trimmed door speakers and knee pads
S adds frameless mirror
S adds power retractable mirrors

Limited has Alcantara & seat heaters, S it's an option.
Limited has Rear Spoiler, S it's an option (with Floor Undercover).

USDM has LED Dayliner, JDM is option.

R differences from USDM Premium:

Premium adds Silver panels, R has unpainted black
Premium has 17" wheels, R has 16"
Premium adds Leather steering wheel, ebrake, shift knob
Premium adds aluminum pedals
Premium adds aluminum door sills
Premium adds bigger brakes
Premium adds Torsen LSD
Premium adds foglights
Premium has different Final Gear

RA has steel wheels
RA has smaller brakes
RA loses A/C
RA loses Radio & Speakers
RA loses 1 USB port
RA loses painted mirrors
RA loses cup holder

What is it with "USDM"? There is no "USDM"; the car's Japanese, the only "domestic" market is Japan.

domestic - of or pertaining to one's own or a particular country as apart from other countries

The US has special requirements for import cars to be "domesticated" for the US market. Left hand drive, ECU that complies with our lower rated octanes, different exhaust system for smog compliance, and different D.O.T. approved sidemarkers to name a few. BRZs sold in the US are for the USDM, by definition.

From an economic standpoint, Subaru of America's product marketing and planning decide on packages/trim levels that will be marketable in the USDM. Those packages are USDM and not JDM.

You seem to be confusing "place of manufacture" with "domestic market." Where it's built and where it's sold are two completely different things.

@switchlanez is correct.

Our import cars have always been called USDM. Why is this so new to you, lol.

Anyways, that's off topic.

Domestic - indigenous to or produced or made within one's own country; not foreign; native.

Since your quote came from the same place, I suspect you omitted this one by choice.

"Domestic" refers to where it's built. The only place there is a "domestic" market for these cars is Japan; everything else is an export market.

Similarly, the Corvette doesn't have a "Japanese Domestic Market" version - it has export versions.

There is a US domestic Accord, for example - as well as a US export Accord - since it's built both places.

Just because everyone says "USDM" doesn't mean it's accurate. Lots of people say "PIN number" too.

You're talking about domestic manufacturing and, again, confusing market with place of manufacture. This, otherwise, useful thread is about US Domestic Market. Keyword: Market. Not domestics v. imports. Off topic much?

If that's true, why bother saying "domestic" at all? Is there some other kind?

Yes, every market has its own designation, but only one can be "domestic".

Can anyone provide a link to some official documentation whereby a Japanese car sold in America is referred to with "US domestic market" terminology?
