Trunk lid liner.
Hope this isn't a repost. I know the Subaru comes with the trunk liner and the FR-S does not. I've searched across the boards and seen the pictures. There still an area around the edge that that the liner does not cover when the trunk is closed.
For those of you guys who have installed the liner from the BRZ into the FR-S, does it provide any deadening to a louder exhaust, or reduction of any rear road noise, or is it purely cosmetic? |

Installed mine a few days ago. Personnally, I think it is more appearance. But, for the cost it looks really nice!!!

Liner does little for sound deadening. I wanted to clean up the the deck lid and cover the wires.

I was only thinking of appearance when I installed the BRZ trunk lid liner in my FR-S. However I can't say it doesn't help with sound deadening. If it does I would say it would be a very small amount as I didn't notice any difference.

Thanks a lot for the mature answers. Really informative and helpful. After reading the question thought it'd be chewed out as a stupid question, but you guys have been great.

Not a stupid question. That's what the forum should be for. Lots of people out there with a lot of knowledge and are good resources.

I picked one up just to cover the sound deadening I want to put on the lid for a sub later. Quick question though, I forgot to get the push pins for mounting it when I picked it up, will any standard ones work, like form an auto parts store or something. I'm a long way form the dealer, don't want to make a 2 hour round trip just for the push pins.

I'm putting one in when I get home, as well as some sound dampening material behind it.

As reference, it is about as thick as the key blade for the 86, and is mostly honeycombed plastic. You can see the close ups on the link above. You could also do a DIY pretty easy that might be thicker.

I think I'll swing by the local Sub dealer and see if it's cheaper to get it from them. $21 for shipping a $48 piece of thin carpet... ouch. |

The biggest problem with shipping is the size. You can't roll it up without putting creases in it so you have to ship it relatively flat or slightly curved. Takes a big box. The box weighed more than the mat did.

I installed one too. Bought the complete kit from subaruonlineparts.com last summer. I agree with the others -- it's purely cosmetic, but it is a nice upgrade. I run with the rear seat folded down pretty much all the time, so it cleans up the view greatly when I look back into the open trunk. I like it. A worthwhile improvement, in my book.
Cheers, Dave |
