First Mod when I get my FR-S
Change every stinking Scion badge on the friggin thing!
I have been waiting for this car for almost a decade ever since I fell in love with the Initial D Manga/Cartoon/Arcade Game (anyone ever play at the arcade in downtown T.O. on Yonge St by Ryerson Uni?) So needless to say, I am less than impressed that I am going to have super ugly Scion badges on my TOYOTA hachi roku. One obvious option is to fork up the dough for a Japanese imported 86, but before I go down that $$$ lined road, I thought it prudent to check this option first. So the reason I wanted to start this thread was to see if anyone here has any experience with modding badges on and off of car exteriors, and to see what people think the best bet is for changing the badge on the steering wheel. Any help would be appreciated! |

Exterior badges are usually just pieces of plastic literally stuck on with an adhesive and are easily removed. Some however have little dimples that go in alignment holes in the sheet metal so after removal there may be some visible holes in the sheet metal. Not sure at all about the steering wheel.

I would think since this car is being sold with 3 different badges, when the car is manufactured there is probably going to be just a simple oval indent for whichever badge goes in that spot. That way since all 3 badges are ovals they will probably use all 3 badges of the same size so they all fit in that spot. For the steering wheel you can probably use some sort of chemical to remove it but I

The emblems are not adhesive and usually 2 pronged. Since the dealership sells emblems in their parts and accessories dept, you can buy them right then and there. They might be able to swap out as a courtesy before you drive it off the lot too; putting the liability on them.

I'd just remove the Scion badge from the steering wheel and leave it blank - it' an abomination.

I'd buy an 86 badge and put that on. If there's no indentation in the body for Scion badges (and that's a BIG if) I'd keep the back with no badges and probably will put an 86 badge on the front. IDK if that will look good though, with a non-oval shaped badge on the front.

Agreed, the exterior badges will be no problem to change. However, if the FRS follows the lead from other cars, the steering wheel badge will be integrated with the airbag so the only way to change the badge is a new airbag unit (big $$$) or go aftermarket (Momo, Personal etc..). Thereby losing the factory steering wheel all together. |

Just to be clear, I really have no problem with the branding - just the visual look of that metal badge on the wheel. I'd be happy with a recessed or raised impression of the Scion logo on the leather - much more tasteful. (That said, I do find the Toyota logo more aesthetically pleasing.)

Well, theres a chance I'll really like the factory wheel's feel. And then there's the whole getting your face smashed in during an accident problem with an aftermarket wheel. Don't get me wrong, I had and a Momo tuner and monte carlo on my mk2 jetta and Type R and I loved them...BUT the factory wheels sucked. I don't think that will be the case with the 86's wheel.

Has there been any word on if we can put the BRZ lights in the FRS?? I love the LED halo on the BRZ lights... everything else I prefer FRS.
