black box on cars

Anybody else read the USA newpaper article about the data boxes on cars?
I wonder if the FRS is pre loaded with this item also?

This has been covered but yes it does, as do most other cars, and have for a long time now.

if you read the owner's manual, you'll know that there's a device that records driving data for a short period of time. it's not like a black box which it records over a long period of time. the device in your car only records 30 secs of data.

I would guess that it's continually overwriting the 30 seconds with pertinent data and the last 30 seconds get locked-in when a crash event is detected.

Every time you press the gas or brakes hard a little troll comes out of the black box and takes pictures of you. He then faxes them to Toyota so they can void your warranty.

the boxes play critical roles in accident scene recreation. Knowing the last 30 seconds of driving habits its invaluable in criminal cases, court proceedings, and law enforcement, provided the appropriate legal documentation is filed for the rights to the information.

The information recorded is in a grey area right now legally in regards to who actually owns the data on it. The owner? the dealer? the lein holder? the manufacturer? it isnt clear.
