West side or East coast?

I plan on going on a road trip in my brz sometime this year, and can't make up my mind on which side i wanna go to. I went to virginia last year, and the roads were nice. Unfortunately i was riding shotgun in a camaro boat. I also have a place to stay in Richmond, but my friend who lives there is moving back to Houston in about 6 months. I think the last time i've been to Cali was 1993 and i was like 5 years old. Rode in a car to arizona in 2006, but that was meh. My plan for the west coast would consist of driving from the bottom of cali up to canada taking the Pacific coast hwy of course. Probably stopping at every major city, and any other interesting things i may find when i do more research. As for the east coast i would stop in florida and make my way up to the furthest point in the U.S. Does anyone have experience with these routes? which is recommended? That pit stop in Richmond would save me some money, and the window is closing. However idk when the next time i would be able to do another trip like this would be.

Anyone who's contemplating a vacation/trip that includes driving up or down the east coast via I-95 needs to have their head examined...

CHP is California Highway Patrol... if that is what he is referring to. I just came back from my trip to SF from OC and CHP was fine for me... If you do California you must do Highway 1 from San Louis Obispo to Monterey.

+1 on that.

Also for the speed limit stuff. If it says 65. You can do 70 and be ok.

Also... You're going to really hate the drivers when you're in OC -> LA area. Don't be sleepy when you're driving around here... It sucks, but if you're in the area maybe we can grab some bomb food and I can somewhat direct you to some nice canyon roads.

Did route 66 with the family a couple years back - best vacation we ever took. I would advise doing it soon though, a lot of the old roadside attractions are disappearing. Regardless of the direction you take, or even the region, take a look at http://www.roadsideamerica.com for fun roadside attractions to check out on your travels. My wife and I printed maps of each area we knew we were going through and would pick out nearby attractions as we went, on the fly with no planned itinerary beforehand. It was a blast for everyone in the car (we have three kids).

Meeting forum members when i travel doesn't sound like a bad idea :happy0180: It'll just be awhile.

Beltway speed limit is 55mph here. I drive 75mph and still get passed. This is what I mean by CHP will nail you to a wall; "okay" to drive 5mph over there, "okay" to drive 20mph over here. Still a fat ticket if they decide to pull you over, but the chance of that happening is low.

Just did that highway 1 trip a month it so back and it was amazing also I'll have to find the name but a road from monterey to the 101 was just as good and no one was on it. Took it by accident because of to much fog on highway 1 and it was a blast!

I've done both coasts and to me it's not even close to a toss up. I enjoyed the Pacific Coast probably more than any trip I've taken on the mainland.
