ive noticed a slight burning smell through the vents once in a while. it usually goes away quickly and ive never smelled anything outside the car. Almost 9k miles and no signs of slipping.

not sure if its the clutch or not...ive always heard it smells horrible and lingers for a while.

I have smelled this once and awhile and yes it is transmission or clutch related. The one time I smelt it the most was packing into a parking spot on an incline. The reverse gearing in this car is bad and to get the clutch out in reverse it wants to go 20 mph. So I had to ride the clutch a "little" bit because someone walked behind me while I was backing up and I smelled this smell. For me, I only smell it on those occasions and not sure if it is syncros burning or the clutch. If you smell this during daily driving you might want to get someone with a lot of manual driving experience to ride with you and watch your shifting style, you might be riding the clutch when shifting.

Also have this every now and then. I have a feeling the clutch is just very light and burns easy with any slipping. I am hoping there is not an issue with the clutch or transmission. I guess we will find out when people get more miles on them.

Have not gone in for my first inspection yet (5k miles atm) but when I take it in for crickets I will see if anyone else has had the issue.

To OP: Are you running the car in neutral before the car comes to a complete stop? Read somewhere on here that it can burn the fuel lines and that might be what you're smelling?

I keep getting unwanted visitors , rabbits , plastic bags , leaves and branches attaching to the exhaust pipes on my cars and making exciting smells.
So thoroughly check exhaust pipes b4 assuming clutch smell.

How does shifting into neutral when you are braking for a stop cause the fuel lines to burn. I don't think this is valid.

Thinking the same thing. Not a valid comment. You have been mis-informed

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this would be on the news if it was real..

I've also been getting this smell. Only noticed it when I adjusted my clutch and installed an aftermarket catback

is this smell actually the smell of the clutch or the smell that people say it's the coating and will go away after awhile?
