Held back long enough

First off let me say, that I think the BRZ and the FRS look amazing. I think they will sell very well (at first) because it is hard to match the styling and price of these cars. Still with that said I am having hard time understanding how so few of you can not be a bit disappointed in the lack of horsepower and torque (peak torque at 6600rpm are you kidding me). I know it isn't all about horsepower and like I said the styling/price of this car should make this car a quick seller; but my problem is that a lot of you guys act like horsepower is the plague or something. Many of you act like having a little more oomph before you start to mod is blasphemy or something.

I really was hoping that this car would atleast make 220hp, but to finally find out that it doesn't even hit 200hp is just disappointing. How hard would it had been for Toyota to extract a little more power out this car in stock form? I don't even believe that the addition of more power should automatically mean a higher price tag. The BRZ and FRS contribute to my growing dislike of japanese performance cars. There was a time when I would never have considered an American performance vehicle over a Japanese performance vehicle, but I guess times are changing and many of the people in this forum are allowing it to happen.

Many of you say that the BRZ and FRS are meant for handling and stopping, well I hate to burst your bubble, but acceleration is also part of performance. Should the BRZ even be considered a performance car, when one attribute of performance has been so blatantly ignored not only by Toyota/Subaru and but by many of you here. Instead of calling the BRZ and FRS performance cars, we should just call them sporty cars, or eye candy for a cheap price tag, or a more attractive Mazda MX-5. Why Toyota? Why Subaru? Why the rest of the automible manufacters of Japan? Why are you afraid of horsepower? Why are you afraid of acceleration? How can a company like Nissan make the GT-R which accelerates to to 60mph in under 3 seconds, not have some of that technology trickle down to the rest of it's line up? How can Toyota at one time build the Supra, MR-2 Turbo, Celica All Trac, and now be afraid to turn the FRS into a true sports car and not a cheap (albeit good looking one) imitation of a sports car? Is it MPG, really? The MPG rating for this car is pretty good, but not earth shattering to justify it's lack of power.

My biggest questions though, is how and why do you guys feel no disappiontment in this? Why must one resort to the aftermarket to achieve greater acceleration when the car should of had it to start with? You may think I am in the minority, but believe me, many people I know who were interested in this vehicle are no longer interested. 197hp and peak 151lb/ft of torque at 6600rpm scared them away. This car will drive like an S2000 with out the power. Atleast with the S2000, it may have drove like a turd in lower RPM range, but on the top end you are rewarded with a surge of horsepower, the FRS and BRZ wont even offer that. The BRZ and FRS are driver cars? That's what you guys consider to be driver's car? Do you really value yourselves and your money that little? Do you really think Toyota/Subaru create a product to the best of their abilities to be worthy of your hard earned cash? I mean in the end it is your money being spent. Is it really wrong to expect more when your money is concerned. Hopefully a turbo version will be offered, if not then too bad, I was really hoping to pick one of these ups. I guess I will just have to settle with smoking these cars on the highway and streets in my wife's 2010 Honda Accord V6.
