what exactly will void the 100, 000 bumper to bumper warranty?

I would like to increase some hp but with all these little CEL problems I been seeing on this forum I am a little leary on this. So far almost 700 miles and no warning lights yet (just those damn crickets under the hood). So is there anything I can do not to void the warranty?

My recommendation: call your local service manager. He/she will give you the most accurate answer besides maybe the warranty manager. Generally the rule of thumb is that unless they can show that the part you added caused the problem they won't say anything. However, if say you add a full subwoofer setup and your battery dies and your alternator burns out they aren't going to warranty it more than likely. Hope this helps

This probably depends on the dealer. My dealership in AK replaced parts on my STI under warranty and I had an insane amount of work done on that car.

However, I had to fight to get a dealership in VA to replace a couple of speakers because they said the exhaust rattle caused the damage... Who the hell makes that connection? They didn't put up much fight when I called them on it, but the fact that they tried that on me was total BS.

Here's a cool read though:

Has a few articles that may be helpful.

Luckily for us here in the states the car was badged a scion which gives us a little more lineancy as the brand is supposed to be modified. However, checking with your dealership before taking it in is always a safe bet.

I specifically asked that question before I bought the car.

They pretty much said they they aren't idiot and unless some mod are directly related to a warrenty issue, there's no problem...that being said if you lower the car they could potentially void anything like a strut replacement / ball joint..but couldn't refuse anything related to exhaust/engine/interior etc...

Already mentioned, but they can only refuse warranty service if the mod you performed caused the issue. That said, it's their decision to make that call. Simple bolt ons shouldn't be a problem, a SC or Turbo kit, on the other hand, leaves them a lot of room to point blame on your mods.

What are you planning on doing?

Also, I'm not sure how widespread this CEL thing is. Of course as with any internet forum, the ones with problems will be more vocal than the ones without. I've got over 2500 miles without any CEL, and I've had intake, exhaust, and ECU mods since before 1000 miles.

Honestly, I like my 7yr/100,000 warranty too much to even think about modding.

bolt on's can be put back to stock if something comes up and needs to be warrantied, if you mod your car save all OEM parts. As for me I am at 12,700 miles and no CEL issues, I also have a low VIN#. A lot of dealerships will tell you that any mod will void the warranty which is BS.

Just talked to Subaru of America's tech guy (he's a friend) and basically its pretty simple...any mod you do, that they can specifically trace the problem back too...voids warranty.

I talked to my guy at toyota and he said that if you swap an exhaust and something happens that can in ANY way be related to the new exhaust, thats what they wil blame it on. He told me that getting a exhaust would void any warrenty i had for anything exhaust related. I have a light weight pulley on my car and they dont really care. Then again 2 of the mechanics there live right down the street.

you know why? becaue they are not dealerships but stealerships. i bought 6 years 70,000 warranty as well since 36,000 milege seems lower to me and first year model little worries to me.
I am just gonna do bolts-on and keep OEM if something happens and needs warranty work.

Hopefully they wont blame any future engine issues on the exhaust. Because if I took a shit and the shit ripped my asshole, the doctor cant void my medical coverage because of the failure of my intestine. (What?) lol
