Motul RBF600 or 5.1 brake fluid
It's hard to search stuff such as "5.1", i know a lot of people are running the RBF600 but i was wondering if the 5.1 would be worth upgrading over stock. I plan to visit a track maybe once next year but other that it's just my DD. The 5.1 is about half the cost and while the RBF600 isn't expensive if i don't need it i'd rather save the money.

5.1 has much higher boiling temperature. RBF are made for race and they are not good for seals if you don't bleed and flush it often.

Race brake fluid is typically more hygroscopic, so unless you are going to be changing it regularly you would be better off with a standard DOT 3/4/5.1 fluid for a daily driver.

Use the "lowest" grade brake fluid that will get the job done. The higher the boiling point, the more hygroscopic the fluid generally is...
Also, pay attention to the wet boiling point; that's how tolerant the fluid is of water absorbed. We use Project Mu G-four, as it is the highest dry boiling temp DOT4 fluid readily available to us. Castrol SRF is higher, but it's DOT5, and.... ULTRA expensive, and a general pita to switch to. |

We have been racing and using ATE Superblue for the past 10-12 years. Very affordable, and has great properties both wet and dry. What we actually do is alternate between the ATE Superblue and the ATE Gold or the Motul RBF660.
The key is to flush the brake fluid every 2-3 years/30k miles on a street driven car. On a tracked car, even if you track it 1x a year you should also flush the brake fluid 1x a year. -Mike Paisan ![]() 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
