autox tire choice dilemma...

265/45/16 Kumho XS widest, but also tallest (.
255/40/17 Hankook RS3 middle in width and diameter.
245/35/17 Toyo R1R narrow, but smallest for better gearing ratio (my FRS is auto).

they are similar price, and all need new wheels anyway.

which would you prefer?

How fast will the auto go in 2nd gear?

Isn't it kind of cold and wet in BC? Aren't the Hankooks awful in the cold and wet?

I have driven on all of these tires. Both the kunho and hankook are terrible in the wet and cold. They both need a good amount of heat in the tire before they start gripping well, the kumho more so than the hankook. The Toyo is good in both wet and cold, and do well in the heat as well as long as you spray them. The only down side about the toyo is they don't always seem to be the greatest on heavier cars do to the soft side wall. (I know our cars are petty light compared to other new age cars but I'm comparing it to old 89 civics, NA miatas, and CRXs). If you are looking for another option, the dunlop star specs are a great all around tire. They work well in pretty much any condition. Right now they have the star spec Z1 our which i ran last year and it was great. This next year they are coming out with the Z2 which will improve on dry handing, but the wet handling will suffer a bit. I hope this helps!
