Recommended powered subwoofers (is that what they're called?)
I know there are a bunch of subwoofer threads already, this one is pretty specific though and hopefully will help others with similar tastes/wants as myself. I'm looking for something low-cost, easily installed, space saving, and with just a little extra oomph over the stock stereo that I'll be leaving completely in tact. I'm actually pretty happy with what came stock, just looking for a little extra bass. I see the sweet system that OEM Audio Plus puts out and I'd love to have it, but $1000 is about $800 more than I want (or the wife allows me) to spend.
![]() So with that criteria laid out, who has already gone this route and could you post what you did? And for those of you that are in the know, can you recommend something that compliments the stock system well? I'd hate to buy something that ends up putting out the same amount of bass I've already got in the stock system (I don't know the specs stock). Examples of the self-contained amp/subs I'm referring to, though what I'm looking for would be closer to the picture below the link. http://www.crutchfield.com/g_51000/P...rs.html?tp=114 ![]() http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pyle+-+P...ofer&cp=1&lp=2 Also looking for creative places to mount these, I'd love to not have to remove it at all ever but I also would love to have it out of the way. Something custom like the OEM Audio Plus that fits in the side would be nice, but I've yet to see one that is in my price range. |

do you plan on hookin this up in the trunk..those speakers tend to be expensive in the long run.. have you looked at the JL Audio TW speakers ? just food for thought might be alittle more easier to work with. I had them in my last car and plan on doing it with this car. very thin subwoofer, box doesn't have to be big at all.. check them out.

While I am not a fan of going this route, I understand where you are coming from.

This is a little more money, but it is a very nice system. I will be going with this or the SpeakerBox 10" or 8" in the very near future http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7373. I think your pretty limited in the $200-$250 range. That Kicker option looks nice though. |

I got lucky and scored the JBL MSBass Pro SQ system on ebay for $200 shipped brand new, it is a ported 10" sub with 300w amp included. If you could find one in the $350 range it would be worth it.

For several years now I've used an Infinity BassLink Powered Subwoofer in my xbhttp://www.crutchfield.com/S-o9YWZVYLVps/p_108BASSLIN/Infinity-BassLink.html I love it. I wouldn't take it to a sound competition but it has more than satisfied my needs. I really wouldn’t want or need anything more. The sound overall is great for a novice audiophile. I’m sure an expert could pick it apart but I’m happy with it. Fitment and good sound quality are my main concerns for my FRS so I haven't decided what I'll use in it yet but I would certainly consider a powered subwoofer. The cost and ease of installation makes it a no brainer for someone not looking to rattle the doors off of neighboring cars.

Have the Basslink behind the back seat and am very happy with it. Mounted the bass control right next to the dash dimmer switch.

Sorry, no DIY. The three wires are actually 5. 2 are audio plugs, one is a power wire which needs to run off the car's battery and should have an inline fuse, then a ground wire which needs to run to a good ground (may need to tap a new ground), and a small thin one from a switched power source that tells the amp, ''hey amp turn on, or turn off''. You need to make sure your head unit supports a powered amp, it needs the proper outs if you will. Crutchfield.com is a great source of info and they are super helpful so just call them. If you can wire a camera you can definitely wire a powered sub and head unit. Consider getting shielded audio cables, and power and ground cables if they make them. Depending where you run the power wire through the firewall it can be difficult to have it far enough away from the audio cables leading to electrical noise or alternator whine. Let me know if you need help on where to run the power wire through the firewall. Its already been mentioned on this forum or just ask me.
