front license plate vancouver, BC?

hi guys. gonna get my car soon. ive seen some people with their front license plates to the side of their cars. my question is: is that legal? i know that its mandatory to have both your front and rear license plates showing but is it ok to push it to one side and maybe have like velcro or tape holding it? thanks!

The front license plate doesn't have to be perfectly centered in the front. As long as it's visible from the front, then you're good to go.

I think the rules states it has to be visible and perpendicular to the ground. So having it to the side meets those requirements.

I don't believe zipties are legal either; not for here anyways. I think they have to be secured down by a MINIMUM of 2 bolts.

Number plates

(3) The number plate or number plates issued for a motor vehicle or trailer must be displayed on it in the manner prescribed by the regulations at all times while the motor vehicle or trailer is on a highway.

Copied from the MVA. It doesn't seem to specifically state how it is to be affixed to the car. Zip-ties technically would be just as secure as bolts.

Cops here are happy as long as it's there...unless you're lucky to drive without a front plate long enough and never get caught - then they'll never know haha

Motor Vehicle Act Regulation 3.02

3.02 A number plate shall at all times be securely fastened in a horizontal position to the vehicle for which it is issued.
One can argue about the definition of "securely" I guess...

But you're right; it does not specifically say how it should be or what should be used for it to be mounted.
