Metallic buzz over 4000 rpm?

Hey guys.

I was having some fun on the back roads today and noticed a new sound. There's kind of a metallic raspy buzz now, along with the engine sound of course. I have the car stock and wondered if it could be a bolt on that system, or,of it was maybe something else. Almost sounds like a bolt rattling loose, from approximately somewhere forward of the dash. Haven't focused on it enough to really pinpoint, and I am thinking of jacking it up for a look see in the morning.

Anyone have a high rpm specific noise other than engine yell?

Thanks in advance.

Had a similar sound while cruising on the freeway under acceleration. However, the noise disappeared the next day... Been a week and all looks fine. I suspected something to do with the exhaust sound amplifier. Let me know what you find.

Funny i get the same noise when i pass 2000 and it get louder the higher rpms you go but it sometimes doesn't happen. It's pretty faint when driving normal but its still there. I was going to take it in but considering how it only happens every now and then it might have to do with gas. I'm still checking into it and it happened around 1200 miles. You are not alone sir. I thought it was the chime noise that everyone else got but it only happens when you press down on the pedal.

I get this occasionally, when up shifting at high revs and wot, like a burst of a rasp for a moment before the revs drop. Exhaust shield type sound.

Same behavior here, and I run only 93 octane, so I doubt it's got anything to do with the fuel quality. Can cross that off the possibilities list I guess.

Sure it's not this issue.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17964

I fixed mine by installing the washers. When I had Toyota replace my transmissions the noise came back. I think they didn't install the washers again.

You can lay on the ground and see if that shield moves by hand. On the passenger side.

Nope, that one would drive me INSANE so I'm glad that's not it. The one I have now is kind of driving me batty, anyway

I may go digging for it this evening.I don't think it's the skid plate (though I may preemptively fix that one) and I went down the freeway at about 5krpm today looking for it. I could not get my hands on anything on the dash that muted it, but the shifter seemed to have a rattle of its own that changed when I grabbed it. Go figure huh?

Blahhhh.

Oh well. Part of the thrill yeah?

PS, these are a hoot:

I was blown away by the sport button - what a rush, and SO EASY to keep up with. NO correction needed. Poetry in motion, honestly. <3

But that damn rattle...

Put your hand on the rear view mirror and see if the buzz goes away.

Mine rattles against the windshield. I swear it sounds like it's something loose inside the dash, but holding the mirror instantly makes it go away. I've stuffed a piece of folded paper between the top of the base and the windshield and that helps.
