My roommate put down a deposit for a BRZ, and changed his mind. Still got his deposit back because Subaru doesn't care since the car is so high in demand. I assume it should be the same for Scion.

The deposit could be refundable. Call the dealer and ask. What do you have to lose...oh yeah, $1000.

My deposit was refundable but when I ordered the only one I had seen for real was on a podium at a car show. I made a point of asking if in the rare chance I find it hideous when it arrived. They had no issue then (in April).

I had a deposit on an FRS and then a BRZ, but since I was able get the exact BRZ locally I cancelled both other orders. No problem at all getting the deposits back.

It doesnt matter if other peoples deposits were refundable, but rather that THIS deposit is. You entered into a contract, different from ours. Good luck, I see no reason they should keep your $.

Both my wife and I work(ed) in sales at dealerships (In Quebec) and in no case can the dealer keep a deposit. They only time they can keep any amount of money is if they have certain things done to the car specifically for you that costs money before you cancel(Tinted windows, body kit, wing install, etc.)

They might try to blackmail you into keeping it, but simply stating that you know you can have it back legally tends to end the conversation quickly.

Just in case it wasn't obvious in line 1: I can only confirm this for Quebec.

I am interested if the car is still available and you are buying from a dealership in the GTA. If so, PM me the details.
