Talking 50 Shades of Grey (Toyota's)

Howsit guys -

You probably heard of 50 shades of grey by now right? Well that got me thinking about car colours - so I put a quick blog post together. What was the motivating idea behind your FR-S, 86 choice of colour? The Pearl White does it for me, for whatever reason. Looks clean, sporty, refined, and even better with the TRD kit bolted on. How about you?

I wanted red initially; blue was my second choice. Blue was available, red wasn't, so I took the available choice. I have no idea how quickly I'd been able to get the red had I waited. In retrospect I'm glad I didn't - I got to enjoy the car, and as it turns out I like the blue just as much as I do the red.

Regardless, I knew I wanted a real color - no white or black or grey.

Black looks sexiest. Also highest maintenance.

White has the tendency to make the greenhouse (windowed area) look smaller.

I was debating between asphalt, blue and red. Red i was scared it would come pinkier in the future, and then decided to go blue, because there would be more Asphalt out there then the blue one!

I was back and forth about buying this car. Sat in a WR Blue BRZ in April and was impressed overall, but not seeing enough for me to shell out for payments again. Then I heard the FR-S was at dealerships in June and decided to check it out. At first I was all set for the Whiteout because it reminded me of the LF-A. Then I saw it in person at a meet and was less impressed.

However, when I saw the Firestorm in the showroom on a Saturday, that car just called me. I knew I was coming back for it and I did just that the following Monday.

Asphalt - is that basically the black? We have four of them in our showroom, and not such a hot seller. Though that tuned black done up for the SEMA show, is a different cup of tea. But so far, the one that really turns heads, is the Orange. Only had one go through our showroom as yet.

Hot Lava to 'go with' the Terracotta (circa 1983) from my Toyo Supra. Period, with only 6-7 options, the color seems the most 'important.' However, the line I get from dealerships is that anyone will take any color that is in stock, and finding the color you want is difficult. Really?

I was disappointed with the color selection offered by Scion (Toyota). The only color they produced that was outside the mold was their hot lava. I picked out the firestorm. I would have loved to have had a choice of candy apple red, british racing green or yellow.

Taking it one step further, I would have loved to have an option of a tan leather interior. Maybe next year.

I just new way before I got into the market that I wanted blue. I saw the black FR-S way before a blue one was available but I just didn't want black. So I heard someone backed out on a blue FR-S and I jumped immediately so I could see it. When I said it came in I showed up with the money, to be amazed at its color after I bought it.

As the name states I chose Asphalt. I was originally wanting the blue but then my last car was blue so I decided to change it up a bit.

After owning a Black M3 E36 I hated how dirty it constantly was and honestly the Asphalts contrast hides much more than its black counterpart.

The Asphalt in the sun looks pretty awesome and at night it might as well be a black car so I guess it's win/win, besides I don't like drawing a lot of attention and having a color that sticks out does just that.

1) whiteout 2) asphalt 3) ultramarine

The asphalt was the only 6mt my dealer was getting, couldn't be happier.
The way it looks after a good wash and the way it looks at night under the lights, awesome!
Plus it tends to hide the dirt pretty good. I love this color.

The color I wanted was Whiteout or Raven but those had a good little wait on them and my dealer was getting in a MT Asphalt the next day so I got it.
