Opti coat 2.0
Hi all...
Yesterday i spent few good hours on Opti Coating my car (Lexus IS 200)and I must say this product is AMAZING! Very easy to apply really! I stated with washing my car with Meguires California Gold wash or something like that. Then I clay bar -ed the whole car. At that point the paint was really, really smooth. Then I used a combination of different polish compounds to correct any swirls or scratches. I used the following: 1. First and second step of the Mothers 3 steps polish 2. Autoglym resin based polish compound - really good stuff 3. Meguires deep polish crystal clear After hours spent on corecting the paint which was quite bad for a 00 model, and also clear the paint of all contaminants, I got to apply the opti guard 2.0. I must say the car looks fantastic. So if you want to save yourself some money, it might be a good idea to get the Opticoat 2.0 for $90 and have someone do your paint correction for you whihc is what...200 max? The only downside to this is that you wont get a lifetime warranty. This is only a suggestion! I am not trying to disregard the professional services by any means. Opticoat in general is easy to apply, you just have to remember to apply it evenly and to knock down any high spots before it sets. Most of the cost involved is due to the paint correction and prep work, which depending on the condition of your paint can be pretty time consuming.

A couple of things though. Autoglym Super Resin and Meguiars Deep Crystal are very oily products that fill imperfections rather than correct. Did you wipe down the panel with IPA/Prepsol or wax and grease remover before you put the opti coat on? If you didn't, the opticoat won't bond! Frank |
